The Jazz Mystery
Posted by Jackie Corbridge on October 21, 2007
We have been studying the genre of mysteries. We’ve learned that mysteries are stories and/or events of which there is a problem or an unexplained event, clues, detective(s), and victim(s). In stories, there is the beginning where the scene is set, the middle where the story unfolds, the problem is developed and, clues are discovered, and the end where the problem is solved or a solution is reached.
Hey,…maybe the Jazz could be considered a mystery! Here we are at the beginning where the scene is being set. We have a fairly young team with GREAT potential! A.K. seems to be happy, Ronnie Brewer is developing, Morris Almond is proving to be a good pick and the others seem to be doing good. The Jazz start off in the preseason showing signs of being a contender this season. The characters have been introduced and the story has “grabbed” us. Now we will move into the middle, the games that count! The problem we see, is already unfolding! Are the Jazz really going to be a contender??? Which Jazz team will we see from game to game?? One game is the team that plays together, plays offense AND defense and has energy. The next time we see them with little energy and only seeming to play the offensive side of the game! Is this preseason a foreshadowing of what is yet to come??
Finally, sometime in the spring we will come to the end of the story. Our question is, who will the victims be, us as fans or the teams that we beat on our way to the playoffs?
As all good mysteries, we will just have to wait for each page and chapter to be written. We will be watching for the clues that they give us that will point toward the solution and the ending of the story. We know how we want this mystery to end!!
