Utah Jazz: Instruments of Action, Vol. II
‘Number 32, who we loved and knew’ (NBAE/Getty Images)
With the 13th pick in the NBA draft, the Utah Jazz select, from Louisiana Tech University…
The naysayer said:
“A southern man has no interest doing what you do.”
“A southern man has no business saying what you say.”
“A southern man has no concern with no silly game.”
But those elbows of reprisal took aim and overcame.
O, Hosanna! Thank you Louisiana! For Karl Anthony Malone.
A cornerstone of consistency, a pillar in the post, for 18 seasons you were a gracious host. Number 32, who we loved and knew, kept truckin’ as his persona nearly out grew that chiseled physique and size 18 shoe. MVP twice, All-Star 14 times, two Olympic golds and numerous other awards, we were so happy to have you; suddenly the relationship grew cold.
Then Hollywood called and…
Everything is quiet since you’re not around and we live in the numbness now.
Without that silly ring, a gaudy material thing, the muses of reconciliation began to sing…
And you’re back in Utah now. Amongst old friends and pals, where 18 wheelers are understood and hard work has withstood and golf courses are still a waste of pasture land. And you got your comeuppance in the end… for The Mailman always delivers.
