What’s in a Name?

I was playing with my 2 year old grand daughter when she said “Honey, I wuv you”. I laughed because now she thinks my name is “Honey”. My son has full custody of this precious little girl so they currently live with us so, she picks up everything. It seems everyone has different names now that she is here. Dakota is now “Po” it’s not that she can’t say Dakota it’s that she refuses. Jessica is “Eska”, Katya is “Shasha”, Tashina is “Ish” and grandpa of course is “PaPa”. This got me thinking about names and nicknames and some of the more famous nicknames that the athletes have gotten stuck with. The first one that came to my mind of course was Karl “The Mailman” Malone. After doing a little research I came across several that I remember and some I really don’t recall, but they’re fun none the less.

Shawn “The Matrix” Marion - Because of his creative shots
George “The Iceman” Gervin - For his cool demeanor on the court
“Pistol” Pete Maravich - Because of his shooting style
Karl “The Mailman” Malone - Because he could deliver
David “Skywalker” Thompson - He could touch the top of the backboard
William “The Refrigerator” Perry - (Football) Have you seen the size of that man?
Vinnie “Microwave” Johnson - He was fast and hot
“Babe” Ruth - (Base ball) A candy bar was later named after him
David “The Admiral” Robinson - For is Navy service
Deion “Primetime” Sanders - (Football) He did everything on Primetime when it needed to be done
“Shoeless” Joe Jackson - He went to bat without his shoe because of a blister
Earvin “Magic” Johnson - What he did on the floor was magic
Michael “Air” Jordan - He flew through the air
Lebron James “King James” - The Savior
Charles Barkely “The Round Mound of Rebound” - His looks said it all
Hakeem Olajuwon “The Dream” - Played like others only dreamed about
Julius “Dr. J” Erving - For his surgical precision on the court
Clyde “The Glyde’ Drexler - For his acrobatic moves to the basket

Now for a few of my own for the Jazz:

Carlos “The Hunk” Boozer - Oh, did I say “Hunk” I meant Hulk
How about “Hot Shot” because their shots are hot

What nicknames can you think of? Gives you something to think about don’t you think?
