Earlier this week the Jazz cut their roster to 15 players. The maximum amount allowed by league rules. Jazz fans should be at least partially familiar with the 14 players that the team has under contract for the upcoming season. In the interest of getting to know all the players currently on the roster… Ladies and gentleman, may I present to you, Kevin Lyde.

Who is Kevin Lyde?

If Kevin Lyde remains on the Jazz roster for opening night (and it’s a good bet he will), this will be his rookie season in the NBA. But while he has never played a game for an NBA team, he has spent the last few years building up plenty of experience. Following is a brief recap.

In 2002 Kevin Lyde completed his four year college career at Temple. He became the third player in school history to total over 1000 rebounds and 1000 points. He also ranked second all time for the Owls in blocked shots with 219. During his junior year in 2001, he led the NCAA in offensive rebounds (4.1 per game).

Undrafted in the 2002 NBA draft, Lyde was the 8th overall pick in that year’s NBDL draft. Lyde played 4 seasons in the NBDL:

Season Team
2002-2003 Greenville Groove
2003-2004 Columbus Rivercats
2005-2006 Fayetteville Patriots
2006-2007 Dakota Wizards

In 4 seasons in the NBDL he started 135 of the 151 games in which he played, averaging 9.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game in an average of 24.6 minutes per contest.

Kevin Lyde was born in Washington D.C. in 1980 and attended High School in Virginia. Kevin Lyde plays the Center position and measured in at 6’10” and 294 lbs. (He weighed 260 coming out of college). Lyde is no stranger to the Jazz organization as he played for the Jazz summer league entry in the RMR.

I work with his mother @ YSC she is proud of his achievements. He came to YSC and talked to the youth about their future and what it has been like for him. Keep up the good work Kevin, my prayers are with you.

Newsflash
I watched a Jazz pregame lately and something stuck out like a sore thumb. Kevin Lyde is better than Jarron Collins! I know the Jazz have everyone under contract but they need to release Collins and replace him with Lyde. I was amazed how quick and athletic Lyde was. He also has some offensive abilities. He could be the big man they are looking for. He is better than Fesenko, also. He needs to be in a Jazz uniform this year. He is definitely an upgrade over Collins and Fesenko. Quick, do the right thing Jazz. Sign him.
