I wonder if NBA players get that ‘excitement and butterflies in the stomach’ feeling the day of the season opener. I have heard actors comment that they still get nervous speaking in front of crowds and I wonder if the same is true with NBA stars.

Do they stay up all night, unable to sleep, dreaming of fabulous plays and awesome wins? Do they spend time fearing they will miss that easy lay-up, or run off in a fast break towards the wrong basket??? Do they worry and wonder who will “start” that night? Do they itch for a chance to prove what they have to the coach and fans?

Or is it just another day for them. Another grueling game. Just a day at work. Nothing fabulous about it. I guess we all have days like that, and I would suppose there are practice days for them that feel like that. But game day??? SEASON OPENER GAME DAY????? It’s got to burn inside them like a fire that’s been waiting to be set loose for, geez, what has it been? seven months????

Well, I’m sure not one to offer the answer to any of those questions, but I can say that as a fan, my feeling is pure joy that we have finally ARRIVED. Sure, I hope (and fear) for the future, but there is a satisfaction that comes from knowing that we will be living the season for the next five months (at least) and hey, maybe longer (cross your fingers, knock on wood, kiss the rabbits foot . . . whatever you have to do). We’re finally here! Here’s to the 2007-2008 season. . . may it be longer than last years with just as much emotion (I don’t think I could take any MORE emotion than last season ) GO JAZZ!

I don’t know about the players but this fan (who has to watch on TV has all those feelings and questions. I AM EXCITED!!!!!
