Jazz, Warriors and Rockets

The earthquake occurring in the San Jose area Tuesday night was not the Jazz doing a number on the Warriors but it could have been. The Jazz just manhandled the very passive locals in every part of the game. Rebounding, Defense [1/2 court and fast break], aggressiveness. Execution of their offense and most importantly going into this season, terrific play from the two second year players, Brewer and Millsap. To my way of thinking, we know what the team is going to get from most everyone else BUT getting big-time play from these two is vital. Both can play two positions and are players who will do it at both ends of the floor. Brewer reminds me of a young Bonzi Wells with the right “head” and Millsap, a young Paul Silas. Brewer contributed well on offense and didn’t have to even take an outside shot! Millsap just gets better and better. More on some of the other guys later after a few more games.
Houston will be better for a couple of reasons. No.1 the big guy is going to be better 2. McGrady will start to get “it”, and realize by becoming more of a well rounded player the Rockets can move past the 1st. round. 3. Rick Adelman is a good coach who knows how to craft an offense getting the most out of his stars. Van Gundy seemed to stress defense to the extent that the Rockets just couldn’t score and were a plodding half court team.
I still want to address the change in officiating philosophy and hope to do it in the next blog or two.
