The Memphis Grizzlies are playing the Jazz in Utah tonight with their 7 foot center Pao Gasol. Now, Senor Gasol has a little bit of a bone to pick with the Jazz, or at least with Andrei Kirilenko who still plays (and very well lately, I might add) with said Utah Jazz. By the way, Pao Gasol garnered his first career triple double on January 24, 2007, against none other than our Utah Jazz.

Let me set the stage: It was a dark and stormy night in Madrid. Actually, it was probably a clear and beautiful Mediterranean night. The power house Spanish national team was playing against Russia, in their own backyard. The Russians were a bit of an underdog, although they had played very well in the Eurobasket tournament thus far. Pao Gasol, international basketball superstar, MVP of the 2006 World Championships (where he broke his foot, causing him to miss 19 games with the Grizzlies), NBA Rookie of the Year in 2002, and top contender for Hair-God status, was sure to lead his team in pursuit of the gold medal for the second time in 2 years. The royal family and various higher ups were all watching from the royal box, expecting to fulfill their responsibilities of doling out the spoils to their hometown boys. Here is a summary of how that went down.

The guy with the “oh the horror” look on his face is Marc Gasol; Pao’s taller (7′1″), younger brother. The guy who shot that last shot was none other than Pao Gasol. The MVP of not only that game, but the entire tournament was none other than one Andrei Kirilenko. So, no matter what anyone says, there has got to be just a little extra incentive for Pao when he walks onto the court tonight.

Also-tonight, just for extra measure, Andrei Kirilenko will be sporting his newest creation, the long-locked mohawk. He wins again. (You just didn’t think I would get in another mullet mention-did you?)
