Avoiding Mark Eatonitis

I spent the last week with my family in Florida. We spent time at Sea World and I came to the conclusion that Florida drivers are awful. Why the majority of them get in the fast lane and drive 10 miles per hour below the speed limit, I’ll never know.

Although I was on vacation and suffering from road rage I had a plan in place to stay up on all the happenings in Jazz land. My original plan was to borrow my friend’s Slingbox, but that didn’t work out. I ended up listening to every game over the internet with the exception of the Cleveland thriller which was on ESPN.

I spent more time listening to Hot Rod Hundley than I have in a long long time. During the game against the Sonics on Friday I came to the conclusion that Hots is under appreciated. He is the man. In my mind he is like John Stockton at the end of his career. Stock defiantly wasn’t the same player he was at his prime. He was a step slower and was a defensive liability, but you could still see he had great instincts and was a much more cerebral player. Hot Rod is the same. Sure he may slaughter the pronunciation of most foreign born players’ names and come up with crazy catch phrases, but he still paints a great picture of what is going on throughout the game. To be able to describe the game play at the pace he does night in and night out is amazing.

It has been great to listen to the games this year and I hope more Jazz fans will give Rod the credit he deserves now before he calls it quits. If not, I think a lot of Jazz fans will experience Mark Eatonitis realizing how good Hot Rod really is after he is gone.

Well said. Living in Denver last year I had to get all of my games streamed online. It is through the excitement of Hot Rod that I gained a love and excitement for Paul Milsap and Ronnie Brewer, two young players that are now part of the core that will lead the Jazz to another playoff show down.
