Basketball in the Future . . . .and Beyond!
I was thinking the other day, just how far basketball has come from it’s early days. Way back when James Naismith decided that it would be fun to throw a soccer ball into a peach basket and keep score. That was 1891. The game has changed a lot since then. Even just in my lifetime as rules have changed and evolved (the 24 second clock, 3 point shots, # of referees, penalties, fines, suspensions etc.), the level of play, pace of the game and talent of the players continually improves.
So I wonder, what will the basketball of the future be? How much faster can the pace get? How much higher will the players be able to jump and dunk? What new creative ways will be invented to get that steal? Will we resort to trickery, some sort of magic that tricks opposing teams to think you do or don’t have the ball? That would be funny. Maybe we’ll just turn out the lights and the players will play in darkness . . . hmmm…
There is credit due to the wonder of the human mind and body and it’s ability to evolve, over time, perfecting and inventing new and better ways to accomplish things. I wouldn’t want to guess what lies ahead, but one thing I do know, I will still be watching, on my plasma TV that is suspended in mid-air over the center of my living room floor, visible from any angle of the room, priced . . . well, never mind.
