Top 5 Underrated Jazz Players

This past week I received my official copy of the 2007-2008 Utah Jazz Media Guide. 416 pages of pure Jazz information that I plan to put to assimilate and use to bother those around me. I am now officially the guy who will say things like, “The Jazz have had an equal number of players (4) from both BYU and the U of U.” Life doesn’t get better than this.
That being said I have decided for the next few posts I will be putting together a few lists for your enjoyment. The first being the all-time underrated Jazz team. I’m not old enough to remember any of the players who played in the 70’s, so none of them made my list. (Any Jazz fan older than me can feel free to add to my post.)
With no further adieu here they are:
5- Felton Spencer : Had his best years in a Utah Jazz uniform. He was a big man with a pretty good touch and as much as it pains me to say it, I think the Jazz got the worst end of the deal by trading him for Mike Brown.
4- Ty Corbin : A solid role player for the Jazz during his time with the team. Corbin shot about 50% from the field and averaged just under 10 points per game.
3- Thurl Bailey : Solid NBA player. Obviously overshadowed by Stockton and Malone. Looking back on his numbers he has some solid playoff series as well.
2- Mark Eaton : Although his number has been retired by the Jazz, Eaton still is under appreciated. Great shot blocker, rebounder, NBA All-Star, and had a sweet beard. Need I say more.
1- Jeff Malone : Jeff Malone’s Utah Jazz career is often forgotten due to the fact he was traded to the 76ers for fan favorite Jeff Hornacek. Malone was a shift scorer with the sweetest off balance jumper I’ve ever seen. He averaged just under 20 points per game and shot over 50% from the field in his Jazz career.

I love the fact that the only clip you could find of Mark Eaton is one of him getting dunked on by a guy half as tall as him.
On another note, your posts are the most entertaining of all the posters on this website. We need more good stuff from you Tim.
I loved Jeffie. When the Jazz had a fast break, he would pull up and softly put a 10 footer through the hoop with greater accuracy than most players made layups. We used to have 5th row seats back then, before pricing chased us up into the upper bowl. He’d pull up and I’d yell “lay up” as he released. He’d make the shot and grin at me going back down the court.
We all thought he was going to be a 3 point shooter, which he wasn’t, but his midrange shot was smooth and perfect mechanics.
Mark was never appreciated until he strained his back. The Jazz defense went from a “brick wall” to a sieve. If he could have stayed healthy, I’m sure we could have had a couple of championships!
