A Quasi Family Dressed in Blue
In the center of the city at night,
We wait for you.
My mind wanders…
If I were born in a land not called
Zion,Would I still cheer for you?
As a boy I deified Michael Jordan and his Bulls,
And nurtured malevolence toward you.
Was it just youthful rebellion,
Or the pomp and panache of
Chicago’s elite crew?
In the center of the city at dusk,
We wait for you.
Did age assist me to focus on the subtleties,
The persistent brilliance of Jerry’s chosen few?
Did age lend me the importance of understanding familiarity?
That you support those around you
And they support you.
The significance of a home team,
A quasi family dressed in blue.
In the center of the city at night,
I wait, eagerly, to support you.
