Sixth grade students have definite ideas about what is and is not great. Just to give you an idea, having no homework over the weekend, early-out school days, earning good grades and PE are on the “great” list. They also have a pretty good handle on some of the things that they consider as the “best” and can recognize that same ability in others. When my students say that there are things that the Jazz do “best,” here is what they are talking about:

The Jazz being in Salt Lake - as well as other NBA teams.

Watching our favorite players and feeling like you really know who they are.

The Jazz are a young team, so they will just get better and be able to play together for a long time.

Boozer “being there” at every game, even when the other players don’t show up ready to play.

We get to learn a lot from the team: sportsmanship, how to act under pressure and (well, most of the time) how to control your temper or jsut walk away when somebody makes you mad.

But, according to most students, the best thing about the Jazz is that they are here so we can see them a lot!

The students also said that it doesn’t matter so much if the Jazz win or loose, as long as they do their best every night, just like they promise to do on their jumbotron speech. It is just like someone once told me, I have a very savy class of sixth graders!
