The Bet

My daughter that lives in California called me last night and asked if dad wanted to put $20 on the game. Well, dumb question of the night was “Who’s playing?” My daughter laughed and stated that Jazz was playing L.A. and that Mark (the boyfriend) wanted to know if my husband was a gambling man. My husband said no he didn’t want to bet and my son Chris said heck I’ll put $20 on the game I like L.A. (Ha Ha) No Chris, Mark is picking L.A. you have to pick the Jazz. Forget it was his response. I then asked my daughter if they were watching the game and she stated yes and that Mark said that L.A. have been on fire. Although the Jazz was ahead now he knew they wouldn’t be for long. I told Mark that I would bet $20 I seemed to be the only one in the family with any faith.

So last night I watched the remainder of the game. When I started watching it was almost half time and we were up by 14. Now some would think that was a good lead but I’ve seen the Lakers play before and knew that they could easily make that up in a matter of minutes. I really wasn’t worried until the camera panned the benches and who did I see sitting out but my man “Boozer”. Oh no, now I was a little worried.

When they showed the team points made by both teams at half it was then I realized that the only member of the Lakers that showed up to play was Kobe. He had scored half the points that the whole team had at half and was the only one scoring double digits where as the Jazz had 5 or 6 in the double digits. Half is now over and the 3rd quarter is off and running when the phone rings. It’s Mark wanting to change his mind. He states that he doesn’t understand what is going on, that L.A. is usually on fire. Although they’re behind he’s sure they’ll come back (ha ha). I actually got a little worried when L.A. dropped three 3 point shots in a row but that was about it for them. The Jazz continued throughout the game like an inferno. Getting hotter the longer they played.

Well we all know how the game ended (96-120 Jazz) and yes I was $20 richer. I called Mark and told him that I love it when L.A.’s on fire and he stated that he would Fed Ex my money first thing tomorrow but I told him not to worry about it. He did make the same offer the next time they play each other and I think I’ll raise the bet just to make it interesting.
