A Coach’s View
The Kings are really good? Jerry Sloan wearing a mic? A camera in the locker room? The Jazz haven’t beaten the Spurs in SA,19 times? There is trouble in “River City”? [ I really mean Dallas] “River City is from the Music Man”. Anyhow, whatever city, there is trouble. Lets figure it out.
The Kings are just fair but pretty good at home[7-3] and are the kind of team who can give the Jazz trouble. They get up and down the court, take quick shots, spread the court and try to attack your weakest defenders This means your poorest defenders because they don’t take pride or are in foul trouble or both. Also the Jazz who have a well crafted offense[if they run it] were coming down in the 3rd and 4th quarters making 1 pass and casting the ball up from any angle. When this happens it makes no difference what your defensive plan is. You are not in rebounding position, don’t get back on “D” and if you do are not organized and end up playing “clutch and grab” defense. That helps explain the number of fouls the Jazz had. Throw that tape away and get ready for 2 good teams this weekend.
Jerry Sloan wearing a mic during a game? Jerry and about any other coach in the league would rather wear a tux or bib overalls than be miked! I think its a bad rule and a dumb rule. Interviews at 1/2 time OK, camera in the locker room, depending at certain times, OK.
19 in a row in SA. Its important to remember this, its not the food, the dirty river, the bleacher bums, the Spurs are and were very good even during the best years of the Jazz just as the Kings were at one time. If you go back and look at the players on all 3 teams, you will see a group of Hall of Famers. If Duncan plays, the Jazz will have to be at their best to have a chance to win, if its Kings type game, Jazz lose by 20 no matter who plays. Ditto in Dallas.
Trouble in Dallas both on the court and in the locker room is the only reason the Mavs are so up and down. Cuban doing “Dancing with the Stars”, Dirk struggling, The 5 spot being troublesome, small backcourt??? I don’t know but its going to take another huge effort to get this one.
I do agree with Jerry that playing back to backs shouldn’t be that big a deal. Charters, 5 star hotels, the best of everything! If you lose to 2 of the best teams in the league on the road, thats one thing but at least get after it every night. 4 games in 6 nights, 3 in 5 etc. thats another story for another time.

My thoughts of the Jazz pretty straight forward. Until we can be the Spurs in San Antonio we better give up on trying to win a championship. The Spurs will always be a better team than us (we haven’t won there in 20 tries), that is pathetic. Sloan does not know how to get them ready, the Spurs coach knows what it takes. And as long as we can’t be the Spurs the Jazz will always be looked at as an O.K. team. The Spurs will once again play in the NBA Finals once again and they will play the Boston Celtics, we all know the people in the news wants that match up. We might as well just put those teams in the Finals now because the rest of the teams don’t stand a chance, and league will make sure of it, you know those refs have never made a bad call ever by what head of the NBA says. They call if fare the whole time as long as the team they want to win (A.K.A. brings them the most money) wins it all. I love the Jazz but they never be good enough to win it all.
Well SA only got us by 6 and reality should have gone down, but they didn’t.
I think the clutch and grab had an effect, though the guys did one hella job, they just could not finish it out this time.
DAL is in trouble! The Jazz are in town tomorrow. We’ll see how it goes.
GO Jazz!!
I’ve got faith…
The Red Sox got by the Yankees! Twice! Got dem World Series rings dey did!
I wonder if it has anything to do with how ugly POP is compared to how handsome Sloane is?
Miking coaches and players is a flat out bad idea! Cameras in the locker room, Belecek would love to get a hold of such a feed! (oh wait that’s football).!
Well at any rate I think there are times when coaches and players need to have a certain level of privacy, and court side draw ups and coaching is for sure one of them.
Talk about Sloan not getting the team ready!? What kind of faith do you have in your players? If you think you have the answer in getting them ready and could be sure they would win with your ideas then I think Sloan would gladly even give you his night’s pay if you want to “get them ready and guarantee a win”. I too think they should have won but I sure don’t blame the coach. He isn’t out there on the floor!! I think the mic’s are the dumbest thing they have ever come up with. Maybe it would be more interesting to mic up the officials. I also love great bodies but not in the locker room!!!!!!
