What NBA Insiders think of the trade

Once the trade was made today I texted a group of NBA people who I rely on for information and insight on the NBA.
NBA assistant coach — “It is a steal for Utah. He can play in the offense and what does Sloan care about a player 3 years from now. Korver may start for you.”
Long Time NBA GM — “As a basketball decision, I like it a lot for the Jazz. Korver will win a handful of games for them and they have plenty of young players so the protected first round is not valuable to them.”
VP of Basketball Operations — “I like it for both teams, Philly wants to create as much room as possible for the summer free agency and Utah not only wanted to move Giricek, but they get an excellent shooter back which is something Kevin’s been looking for. Also, Korver’s contract is fairly reasonable and Utah has the room today and in the future to handle it. Korver also fits with Brewer and Miles so my initial reaction is positive.”
Director Of Pro Personal — “You got a volume shooter, who doesn’t defend. Great range. Can really put up numbers, good teammate I think.

Korver himself admits that he’s a shooter and that shooting better be what he does the best, so I was pleasantly surprised when he came up with some great defensive plays for the Jazz. Like Barney said, 2 steals and 2 blocks plus some smart fouls.
I was especially impressed that he took the second three point attempt after just barely missing one. It shows that he knows he can hit it, he has confidence, and a huge percentage of good shooting is mental. Unfortunately he only came up with .250 percent from the three and his career average is much better at .408 percent. He made up for poor shooting percentage with his 100% free throws, however. That has to make Sloan happy.

As a longtime sixers fan, Korver has been my favorite player for many years both for his basketball ability and faith in Christ. In fact, One of my friends went to his church down in Philly till this past Saturday. One thing you will find out very quickly is that he is not afraid to shoot the threes. He struggled for the first month of thise season, but continued to shoot threes. His confidence is amazing. True, he won’t be all NBA Defensive Team or anything, but especially down the stretch in close games, he can make some great steals and defensive stops. Korver will most definetely be missed in Philly.

I am So PHYSCED!!! This is great for Utah! another piece to the already great puzzle! An amazing 3 pt. shooter just what we need… we can score inside with boozer, great point guard in d will. memo can go inside and shoot. ak is always reliable. great people coming off the bench millsap big down low, ronnie brewer an emerging star. cj can knock down the three ball, harping is old school but he can score!
I’m buying kyle korvers Utah jersey!

I think this is a great pick up for the jazz. I have always liked Korver since i first saw him play. He brings a lot to the team. Just his presence out there makes it much easier to run the offense. In December the jazz struggled badly against the zone defense, Korvers first game here we ripped a hole in Portlands zone and more than doubled their points in the paint. He also moves well without the ball and makes good screens, which will fit in nicely. The jazz have lost a lot of games because of poor free throw shooting. He was the best free throw shooter in the league last year!!!!!
As far as his defense goes, I was very impressed. I didn’t expect that! Even if he is a poor defender right now, he will get much better playing under Jerry Sloan. Sloan is known for turning people into great defensive players. If you don’t play defense then usually he wont let you play at all.
Great pick up for the jazz! For now and for the future. We have alot of young players that will probably be here for a long time. I hope he will like playing here and sign with us after his contract ends.

As a 76er fan I did not like this trade at all we could have at least got a unprotected first round but its not even gonna be in the lottery. Korver was coveted by so many teams I really thought we could have got more he is a great player he is good defensively to a certain. He is how you say physically lacking the capabilities to be a good defender. I love him here in Philadelphia he was a great guy. I saw his first game as a Utah Jazz I was very disappointed when I first heard the news that they made this trade. I wish they could have traded Willie Green and keep Korver. He is like a Matt Harping type of player not as good defensively and a better shooter but all the same hustle. I remember when Matt was in Philadelphia before he went Utah. Will miss you in Philadelphia Korver and hopefully you’ll come back to us one day…..

I’m very upset that the Sixers traded Kyle Korver. He was the main reason I went to the Sixers games. He is so hot and has an amazing body. I love Kyle so much that I even bought a pair of his sneakers and got them autographed. I also got a couple of pictures with him. I think his high socks are so attractive :] I hope that this trade will improve the Sixers, but I still wish that they would have kept Kyle and traded some one else. I wish Kyle the best of luck with Utah. I am already starting to miss him and I am very sad that I will not be able to see him at every single game :[. I hope one day (hopefully soon) he will come back and stay with the Sixers! I love and miss Kyle so much

we finally have an outside threat and unlike gordon a player who wont travel everytime he touches the ball. good pick up for my team, now we just need to turn it around so we can make the playoffs!!

I was happy that we traded Gordon because I knew he and Coach Sloan were not happy with each other. I didn’t know who Kyle was until I saw him in his first game for Utah Jazz and then I go oh man he was the one making those 3 pointers for the 76’s last year when we played them….
Then I go oh man he is a Utah Jazz player now. All Right! LOL I was impressed with his minutes in his first game as a Jazz player. I only saw a bit of the game last night, and I watched him make his foul shots at the end of the game.
I love that fact we now have player that can make foul shots, we really haven’t had that since Jeff H. And a 3 pointer shooter, that will open things up for us in the paint.

I like the Korver trade. We definately need someone who can shoot and will make his free throws. Now we need to get rid of Memo, we need someone who can guard bigs and Memo can’t guard anyone. Next time you watch the Jazz watch him stand around on defense. He’s killing us, sorry Jazz fans.
Kelly on January 03, 2008 said:
What a great pickup!!!! Not only is he a good basketball player, but he is a great human being. He is exactly what we need here in Utah. He will fit in with our players and he will be able to win enough minutes to help us. We need to shake things up a bit and Kevin has done a great job. I am excited about the trade.

I am very happy with the trade for Kyle Korver. I think he will be a great asset to the team. I was especially happy with the fact that he can make free throws! Hopefully that will rub off on the rest of the team!
As for the idea that we should now trade Memo, apparently Nick has a short memory regarding Memo’s defense. He was super against big men, Tim Duncan and Yao Ming, in the playoffs last year. Plus when he is healthy, which he hasn’t been since getting hurt in the Portland game, he is a terrific shooter.
Taylor on January 03, 2008 said:
Kyle Korver will become an excellent asset to the Jazz franchise. The Jazz have needed a consistent shooter who can make free throws to win games or to close them out. When I saw the trade between Gordan and Kyle, I was so happy. Gordan just wasn’t fitting into the Jazz system anymore, so Kevin O’ Connor needed to make a change. To me, the Jazz got a steal.
I disagree with some of the comments regarding Kyle Korver’s defense. If you have watched any of the two games he has played in so far, you would have noticed that he has gotten steals, stops on D, and much more.
Kyle Korver will be great for the Jazz! I wouldn’t be surprised if he eventually became a starter. Go Jazz!
Me on January 03, 2008 said:
Go Korver!
This guy can play – and maybe more importantly he will spread the floor for our All-Stars to throw down. We have already seen this in his first two games with the Jazz.
I agree with the replies about Memo – yeah he can be lazy defensively but when needed he can put a body on the big man and get us a stop. My concern is not with Memo, rather Hart. Why is Price sitting when Hart cant control the offense?
It seems like a no brainer to me?
clay on January 03, 2008 said:
Okay the Jazz got a huge steal. Gordon is a streaky streaky shooter. He struggled in the system he dont play defense. He isn’t a NBA type player if you ask me, I think he would be better off in the D league. I agree with Me on the Hart issue. Ronnie Price is a good basketball player, I know because I have played against him. To me Hart is out of control and couldnt run a high school basketball teams offense let alone the Jazz. Everytime he comes in I want to change the channel. Now for the man that has already impressed me. Kyle Korver I like this guy and if all he does for the Jazz is come in at the end of the Game an make clutch free throws then we got the better end of the deal. But we all know he is going to get time and make some shots. If he can average 10 a game, Boozer keeps doing his thing, DWILL plays like he can, and Memo finds the range he had last year. The Jazz will find themselves back in the conference finals. Because you know what your gonna get out of AK, Millsap, Harpring, and CJ off the bench. We will be a better team in a month because of this trade. We will also put ourselves back atop our division where we should be. Go Jazz and lets finally bring home the Chip

I hope you people in utah appreciate what you got. Korver is the man. He makes the games that much more fun to watch. He’s a good guy and good player. We’re missing him like crazy back in philly. If you get the chance to meet or talk with him, do it. He’s cool as hell and easy on the eyes too!
J.R. on January 05, 2008 said:
I was shocked that the jazz got kyle so easy. I too hope his shooting habits (mainly free throws) spreads to the other jazzmen. This trade gets us much closer to a championship. I also have to touch on the memo, hart, and price issue. Memo is just in a slump mostly. The guy is a cluch player and I think he’ll pull out of it come playoff time. As for Hart, I think he should have gone to the sixers also. When Price was in the line up before CJ stepped it up, he was torching Hart. Put him in and work on getting us a playoff level back up point like we had last year in Fisher. Then look out! GO JAZZ!

Great move by the Jazz in picking up Kyle. He brings two great things to the team; first, character. His work ethic and genuine approach to life will be great for the locker room and your community. You are fortunate. Secondly, you get a great shooter who has been told all his life that he isn’t a defensive player… watch his hustle and “smart” play. I predict he will be an NBA coach after his playing career. He is a student of the game. I will be watching.

Gordon was always my least favorite player on the jazz. i cringed everytime he shot it. and laughed at him on defense. he was horrible. Korver is smart and can flat out rain. We got such a steal. Much love to Korver and the Jazz.

i have been a huge korver fan ever since he played at creighton. i watched him play at creighton and knew he’d be great. the jazz got a steal, only giving up a draft pick and a crappy player. korver can shoot awsome, but is also very good defensivly. he is a team player, and always hustles, a lost art in the nba. i hope he and the jazz go on to win it all!
Ed Lambert on January 28, 2008 said:
We also have been huge fans of Kyle Korver since his playing days @ Creighton. Kyle is fun to watch as he makes things happen when on the floor; whether it’s creating turnovers or his constant three point threat. Kyle’s great work ethic is seen in his free throw percentage. The Jazz did a great job tonight – loved watching the teamwork the Jazz demonstrated as they wrapped up the 4th quarter. Kyle, that three-pointer was awesome – great timing!!!!!
We are looking forward to watching the Jazz continue to enjoy their wins as well as watch Kyle contribution to them. We hope he enjoys Utah and stays with the Jazz.

O my!! The Jazz got a huge steal from Philly!! I think Kyle Korver ROX!!! he is good on defense but he could put a little more hustle in it. He is a GREAT shooter and a very nice person. When i meet him we shot together in a free throw contest and he complimented me when i shot which builded up my confidence and made me a better player. Korver is soooooooo sweet and he’a the hottest player ever!!! i think memo is hot to but you would have to see him up close to say that!! the Jazz rock and im looking forward to another great season and the playoffs!!
GO KYLE KORVER!!! GO UTAH JAZZ!!!

I definetely think Kyle has been a great trade for the jazz. Kyle puts the ball in the basket and not only that but he is a great defender. i do have to say the Director of Prl Personal was wrong with his “doesn’t defend” statement in his first game he had two steals and two blocks along with his 100% accuracy on his freee throws. i think kyle is a great player who has made alot happen and will still make alot happen in the future.
Cheril on January 10, 2009 said:
Yeah but it kind of stinks that Korver hurt his wrist this year because I think that is the reason that his percentage has gone down this year

Well, Kyle just played his first game, and if I remember correctly, he had 2 steals and 2 blocks. His 2 of his 3 fouls are the kind that get labeled ’smart fouls.’ Whoever this director of Pro Personal guy is, he may have been misinformed about Korver being just a shooter “who doesn’t defend.”
