HAPPY NEW YEAR!! and it comes none too soon for the Jazz! Here’s hoping for some real change in the new year!
The celebration of the new year brings with it a sense of newness, a change in the status quo and a chance to start again. Although the Jazz cannot “start again” they can make some resolutions and look forward to the second half (plus a few weeks) of the season.
I am sorry to see Gordon Giricek leave the team but at the same time I don’t think that keeping him would have helped. Now, Giricek gets a new start and so do the Jazz. Time will tell, let’s hope Father Time is on our side!
Gordon and Jerry said it best with their rehersed statement of “we will move ahead”. The Jazz can move ahead in this new year and hopefully they will find the fight and the heart deep inside to really want each game!

Regardless of how Philly fans feel about Korver’s defense, a team needs something to shake things up throughout a season, “Happy New Year” a spark.
If you can’t get Sloan to see the hardwork fast pace play of a Ronnie Price off the bench that sparks a change of pace during a game(Sacremento did over Hart), then you need something like a Korver trade to shake things up with players. So far I like Korver’s attitude and he was clearly shaken with the trade and it’s maybe what he needs to be a better well rounded player. He showed a well rounded game the other night and will end up being a great fit. I promise we won’t miss Giricek and his attitude and as I originally felt, if Korver adds a energetic spark off the bench, he will have a great career here, we’ll have a few more wins maybe make the playoffs and he may end up starting.
Korver will not be the answer to all the jazz woes. Although he has proven that he can definetly be an asset if he gets to play but lets not forget that Gira also was a good contributor when he got the minutes on the floor before coach sloan goes on another power trip. It’s obviouse that coach sloan can’t see past the nose on the end of his face by his decission to continue to play Heart while he sits Price who has beyond a doubt proven that he is in every way the better backup for Williams off the bench. Unfortunetly until Sloan starts playing the players who are the best without letting his personal attitude get in the way we will not go very far in the league.
I agree with Garrett about Ronnie Price. Every time I see Ronnie Price on the floor, he is amazing! He is explosive, energetic, a good shooter, and just all around a good player. I don’t see why Jerry Sloan won’t play him more in games. In my opinion, Jerry Sloan should experiment with Jason Hart and Ronnie Price and determine which player is the best. Ronnie Price sure doesn’t get very many numbers for the skill that he has.
As for New Year’s Resolutions for the Jazz, there are several different aspects to focus on for 2008.
1. The Jazz must be able to close out games and perform well in the fourth quarter. The Jazz play well up until the fourth quarter and then just lose it and end up getting a loss.
2. This goes along with number 1. The Jazz must be able to have a more consistent free throw percentage throughout games especially during crunch time.
3. The Jazz need to work on their defense and limit the other team’s points.
