Tom Nissalke: A Coach’s View

Beep!Beep!
When does Demi get in to town? Her “husband” really played well in the Boston game! Oh, I guess it wasn’t Austin Kutcher but anyway, the imposter from Philly played alright in his first game. He is going to help a great deal and will take serious minutes from some of the younger players but he is only 26 himself. He finished the entire fourth quarter in a combo with Williams, Andre, Boozer, and Milsap. Pretty good combo, and the best “D” I have seen in a while.
What kind of reception will Gira get? I think OK-maybe mixed like Fisher. He seemed to like the city and get along with the other players. It’s a business and things happen in this very crazy league called the NBA. I hope both guys do well.

I sure hope Gira isn’t booed. He was a seemingly nice individual who didn’t slam the city.
I wish he didn’t get booed either but he did. The fans in the arena that booed him ought to be ashamed of how they conducted themselves. After all Gira didn’t slam the city or the team and until the fans learn that the real source of the problem is coach sloan and not the players we are shipping out Gira won’t be the last casualty.
Ok enough with the Ashton comparisons. Kyle seems to be his own man and the look a like stuff is getting old.
Now what we should be writting about is not Kyle, nor the last two wins the Jazz had. Every night I watch the pre-game show and post-show and I am getting annoyed. For one, Boozer acts like everything is ok because they won, but hello they should have killed this team. The other thing is everyone raves about Boozer’s Double Doubles, but maybe people should start mentioning names and call out Boozer as soft on Defense. He gives space, doesn’t move his feet, reaches all the time(cause he doesn’t move his feet), would rather try and knock the ball out of a guys hands instead of taking the charge, releases too early on the pick and roll on defense, and doesn’t seem to read what the offenses are doing against him. He claims to be a leader, wished for more wins in the new year, but it is going to take better defense from him. Talk is cheap and if they would have given the game away tonight we would be singing a different tune. They are in trouble if they are satisfied with the win tonight. If they are going to get better on defense then it has to be a constent effort every night not just when good teams roll in or if they are playing from behind.
If I were the fans and I had season tickets I would be upset. I mean the fans pay to be the 13th man on the team, but the Jazz players are getting paid millions to hope the fans keep them in the game.
Boozer get in the gym and work on moving your feet on defense on your free time, go over defending the pick and roll with a team mate, and please take a charge.
Williams your jump shot will come easier if you are lighter on your feet. Lose some weight. You also need to be more aggressive in the passing lanes, deny players the pass more, make them work to get the ball. It seems like when things aren’t going right you give up, and this is when you need to take over the game and drive to the basket.
Okur you need to buffen up. You look soft, your shot is coming around, but you too could learn how to take a charge instead of reaching for the ball get in front and take it like a man. Jaron can give some lessons.
That is it sorry for the soap box but these guys need to stop crying about their tough December road trip along with the TV commentators and get tough. I love the Jazz and I want to see them succeed but someone has to say that Boozer is the weak link on Defense.
It is said hope he reads this. I love him, hope his children are doing good, and wife, but I want to see him be the best.
