If you read the papers you might have seen some interesting confessions made lately.  Confessions from both sides of the Korver/Giricek trade.

Addressing local media, Jazz VP of Basketball Operations Kevin O’Connor admitted that the Jazz have been interested in acquiring Kyle Korver as far back as last years trade deadline, and had been in trade talks for Korver again this summer.  Apparently the price was finally right.  I am sure the situation didn’t hurt much either.

As a Jazz fan it’s nice to know that the guy you just traded for has been on the watch list for a while.  It’s nice to know that he has long been thought of as a player that would fit the system.  It makes you wonder though - Why wasn’t this deal done earlier?  I can’t imagine that Giricek’s value increased over the past few weeks.  Were the Jazz previously unwilling to give up the first round draft pick?   Were they scared of Korver’s contract?

Gordan Giricek had a confession of his own.  When a reporter from the Philadelphia Daily News wondered if Gordan had any advice for Kyle Korver, Giricek replied  “Run all the plays. Don’t cut the plays (short). I did.”

That’s not the kind of thing I would be saying if I was just traded and was trying to impress new teammates and a new coach.  I would be even less Inclined to say it only a few months from free agency.  Why would you admit (even joke) that you would break off plays?   Whatever the reason – maybe now Jazz fans can stop wondering why there was a fallout between Giricek and Coach Sloan.

Thank you for the clairification……….. Most of us in some capcity work for someone that has the control as to our future. Most of us have been laid off – fired – and traded. Coach Sloan and several other previous Jazz team players have butted heads and the outcome has been elimination from the Jazz bench.
Confussion as to why did it take so long for Coach Sloan and the Jazz staff to pick someone to eliminate? Why Gira ? Other players have been vocal in both the media and press as to their feelings towards Coach Sloans tactics on and off the court, yet they were never traded. I reflect on a few past players that butted heads several times in past seasons with the coaching and direction of Coach Sloan, they were never told to leave the game while on national telivision.
Emotional sport emotional games and emotional fans, but we all make the choice of handling situations in a mature nature, I feel the imaturity of some key people have given the wrong impression of a team and state being watched by every NBA viewers world wide.
Kevin O’Conner can admit to thoughts of trades prior to this past months emotional confussion but if it was truely a trade that the Jazz owners and coaching staff wanted to persue it would have been done months ago and with less emotionally imature motives.
I sit in my seat every home game and I cheer for one player on the Jazz team that seems to not have many followers, and even some that say he does not deserve to be playing in the NBA straight from high school. and when asked why I cheer for him I say everyone needs a fan….. there are more and more every game that have joined in with my cheering.
I am a proud fan of the team called the UTAH JAZZ and will continue to cheer for all the past players that have moved onto other teams as I still remember their dedication to UTAH.

Gira’s expiring contract increased in value the closer they got to the Feb 21st trade deadline.

Philly wanted cap space and a draft pick, not Gira. Plus, they had a new GM now willing to do the trade, in order to be in the free agent market next summer.

The great thing for the Jazz is, they essentially traded Korver for probably a #20+ (crap shoot) draft pick.

Don’t forget, the other thing that changed was the 76ers general manager. The deal makes more sense for the Sixers now that new GM Ed Stefanski is in place than it did when Billy King was still there.

Looks to me like it was another one of sloans cheap shots on another great player to make him look bad, and apparently Giracek did some shooting back in play and confrontation with Sloan. Again I can’t tell all of you how cheap sloan is, think back to other players he has treated in the same way and sooner or later they are traded. I feel bad for the Jazz players that sloan is so unstable in his thinking and apparently he doesn’t realize how bad it makes him look.

Please Larry Miller, get the players a new coach before sloan becomes more unstable. He is embarrising to watch and listen to. He is showing signs of dimentia, get rid of him please, don’t let him degrade more great players, if some-one isn’t playing up to expectations visit man to man with him don’t let sloan embaress the jazz team with his out of control actions.
Thank you very much for the opportunity to speak

Ernest,

Take a deep breath and go for a long walk. Think about your case against Coach Sloan. It holds like wet paper and reads like spam. Bring us some facts, specific examples, statistics. It’s very easy to throw insults – focus on backing up your statements.

Don’t be the guy who can’t back it up.

OOPS, guess I got carried away, again, but Carlos Arollo, wasn’t treated with any respect when he spoke out against sloan, after they got him alone and beat him with a rubber hose or what ever, he looked like a whipped dog and then he admitted he Loved sitting on the bench for the Utah jazz.
I don’t think Raja Bell has any respect for sloan. He enjoys giving sloan the face, every chance he gets.
I thought Gira was brought on the team to give them a good long ball shooter, but it didn’t take sloan long, to take that away, also adam keefe was a great player and sloan pretty much destroyed him also
I may not have all the facts that you “in the know people” have, but faces, and body actions show alot of what is going on.
I’m sorry I offend you with my dislike of sloan, but in my opinion he needs to decide if he is a team coach or a sloan coach. Sorry but I feel he has run his course, maybe sit him on the bench for a while or talk to him in the locker room or whatever but he needs to answer for his poor play, and unfair judgements of people. Just because of his tenure with the jazz doesn’t always make him right and he certainly isn’t above his players.
I love the jazz basketball team, they are all great men, but one sour apple ruins the players on many nights. Intimadation comes to mind.
Thanks again Derrick, for posting my thoughts I’ll work on my attitude about sloan, but I think I’ll be sitting out a lot of games before I do. Who knows. Maybe I’ll get traded. LOL

Ernest,
I’m glad someone else has the guts to call it the way they see it. I too am a die-hard Jazz fan, but what is up with sloan? I personaly feel that its time to find a new head coach. Think about it, sure he has been a professional coach for longer than almost anyone— anywhere; but there in lies the problem, in his 20 or so years with this team no championships! And after all the object in sports is to WIN!! So, before anyone writes back and says its not just about winning think of all those times you were in front of the TV, on the edge of your seat, watching the game with only a minute to go Jazz down by a few and you were cheering your team on. Think about those times before writing and telling me that its not about championships.

Dont get me wrong Jazz fans I love this team but lets find a way to win some championships!!

I’m sorry, but did someone just call Adam Keefe a great player?

Ernest Monson on January 06, 2008 said:

Yes someone did.

My kids gave me a plaque, with an Adam Keefe rookie card, they found in a garage sale, as a joke gift.

We kept it on the wall for several years.

He was a great guy, used to live a block away, but I knew Adam Keefe, and he was at best a marginal player.
