The Ghost of Stockton’s Shorts Past
The bandwagon has just about passed me by, but I’m taking a running jump at the tail-end. I’m still feeling an upset stomach after watching the 76ers game. The people in the ESA who booed Gordon Giricek should be embarrassed, ashamed, nay, disgusted at themselves. The fickle fans in Utah have long been a complaint whether in college or professional sports. On a vacation to Boston this summer, one of my co-travelers from Utah had the nerve to ask our tour guide which baseball team he cheered for (the questioner wasn’t teasing-he really wanted to know). We must look like backwater hicks to others in the NBA and sports worlds.
You know someone else who should be embarrassed are the people responsible for this:

I’m not joking. How can a team be expected to play well if they’ve been inserted into the circus line up when they show up for work-and against the Celtics no less! The length of shorts has evolved over time. Long shorts are a good thing. Throw back designs for the uniforms would have been a great tribute, without plaguing the players with that nagging feeling that a little more leg is showing than should be. The Dallas Mavericks have incorporated a nice “old school” look in some of their uniforms without placing their team under the big top; dancing inside of 3 rings…

What were the Laker’s staff thinking? I think someone in the publicity department developed their evil plan to resign from their job while simultaneously embarrassing their former employer at even higher heights than ever before (is that possible? They do still have Kobe-the p.r. disaster on the team). Way to go middle-aged man in the promotions department who hated your job. You really stuck it to the man with that one!
Just one more thing, I’m really excited about the prospects of Kyle Korver. He’s already shown he can shoot the two shots that the Jazz have been dreadfully lacking, trouble is, the Jazz seemed almost giddy over their barely a win-win the other night. They needed another win in the worst way- I don’t want to down-play the effects in the team spirit department. (I also don’t want to use anymore hyphens in this post-but I’m apparently unable to stop). But the level of play, especially defense from the majority of the Jazz players is not going to cut it if they’re going to expect to go anywhere in the post season.
So, Korver was a great Christmas present to everyone in Jazzdom but the team will really need to step it up in order for everyone to have a happy NBA new year.
