Odds ‘n’ Ends
Who’s hot?
The start of the season, teams would back off 10 to 15 feet, get in position for the rebound, and let Andrei shoot. AK responded with bricks threatening to break the backboard. Kirilenko made only 5 out of his first 29 triples, but 9 of his last 11! 82% back of the line is scorching the nets. He’s now up to a respectable 35% for the season. Herr Doctor Hornacek is earning his consultation fees. Whether it’s the psychotherapy on the couch or the doctoring of AK’s shot, it’s been great for Andrei. He’s been out with back spasms for the last 2 and probably 1 or 2 more games. Let’s hope he can keep it up after he returns, and Herr Doctor continues to make house calls.
I vunder if zee good Doctor uses de Freudian analysis on Andrei’s shot?
I watched Paul Millsap shoot about 20-30 warm up treys and, after he got dialed in, was making 2 out of 3. I’ve only seen him shoot three game time 3’s, and 2 of the 3 were perfect. He has more than just an inside game.
I think we all have our expectations in a more reasonable mode. With the favorable schedule, let’s hope the Jazz can get back into the playoff picture, and get some more post season experience. This is a developmental year, not a run for the championship. (I hope I’m wrong)
The Jazz cruised past the Pacers in a lifeless performance by Indiana. Playing at home suits the Jazz just fine. Too bad they can’t get the same effort on the road. The German O’Neal may be still hurting, or his skills are degenerating, but his trade value must be decreasing rapidly. It was a nice all around performance and hustle by the Jazz bench. The Jazz just took the Pacers out of their game in the first quarter, scoring 40 points, and never looked back. The bench looked much improved, especially Matt Harpring, who was part of a +24 points, while he was on the floor.

Did anyone else notice that the players are doing a little better since they have a chance to sit and rest a little more on the bench? Maybe it was that and the factor of being home, who they were playing, and players seemed to be playing well together. Did anyone else notice there were smiles on the faces of the players while they were on the bench and talking among each other during the game. I think moral is up and that does a lot. I am unhappy because I will be on a plane to Phoneix while they are here playing the Jazz. Have to be a good girl and attend a family 60 year wedding anniversary. I don’t think we will have a chance to see the Saturday game from Phoenix either. It’s up to all you fans to be cheering for me will I sit there being nervous about how they are doing. Just a note to say if my husband has to put up with me for 60 years to deserves a huge medal!!
I wonder how many of today’s Jazz fans remember just what a piece of work Jeff Hornacek was in his playing days. Stockton and Malone got the headlines, but Hornacek was an indispensable part of the chemistry of those years. He was nearly automatic from the free throw line, and one of the greatest pure shooters I’ve ever seen. He had a great competetive fire, and wanted to win regardless of who got the glory.
There has been some blog writers critical of Coach Sloan, thinking he is opposed to the 3 point shot, but I don’t ever remember him trying to rein Hornacek in. A few years back he allowed Scott Padgett to light it up from outside the circle! Coach Sloan is justifiably critical of poor shot selection, and that is only right…but I don’t believe he would roast a player who took an open 3 at the right time on the clock. Give the man his due, he is the senior coach in the league and should have been coach of the year many times already! If the Jazz are in the playoffs this year it will be because of him…not in spite of his coaching!
(By the way, Millsap knows his role on this team…can anybody spell “paint?”
Millsap, Brewer, Memo, and even Collins! Oh and I shan’t forget Harp either. As a football lover I’m used to seeing guys in pads pounding it out on the field, as a somewhat new student to BB, I’m amazed they are not wearing them. Oh dear i forgot to mention Korver! What a delightful addition for the Jazz and I’m very impressed that he can indeed defend as well. So much for the polls eh?
The world of the paint is deserving of such for sure.
It does seem the Horn is bringing about some changes in AK. All welcome they are as well. It very nice to see him with confidence and ability dropping the 3. Even though some still do not make it, he is indeed dropping a bunch and that alone is a surprise to many of those teams we play.
Shock and awe! Always welcome in any theater of conflict.
I’ve no idea if involving the new with the past is anything new, but for sure it is and has had a wonderful effect upon the Jazz.
