Take A Memo

The short handed Jazz took the even shorter handed Suns to an easy victory Friday. This is not a true reflection of how these teams might do, if they meet in the playoffs. However, the Jazz needed this win.
Even more importantly, Memo, ‘ka-ching’, reverted to ‘Money’. He was back in All-Star form. Since the birth of his baby, Memo’s game has seemed to be in a postpartum depression. The last 1/3rd of last season and the first 1/3rd of this season, he has struggled. However, the last few games he has been playing with more energy and confidence. Against Amare Stoudamire and the Suns, he was ‘Money’ (again!!!). His power dunk on Amare gave the Jazz extra energy. His 3 point shooting wasn’t spectacular, 3 for 9, but was confidant, with no hesitation in the release. His defense was some of the best he’s played. He moved his feet, had his arms up and rotated much better. His 17 rebounds were a reflection of his energy.
And how about the Human Vegomatic? Brewer sliced and diced his way to 21 points, making many spectacular double clutch shots and dunks look routine. Brewer and Korver were both at +24 points, for the Jazz, while on the floor.
The Jazz help defense was much better, as was their rotation back to the 3 point shooters. Kyle Korver’s defense has clearly been underrated. The Jazz got more than they bargained for, which is good. He not only brings great shooting, his hustle and attitude are motivating the rest of the team. Despite his few games in a Jazz uniform, he runs the “Harpring Curl” about as well as Matt does.
More time for practice and game preparation, courtesy of a more friendly schedule, should put the Jazz back into the playoff picture. There are 10 teams in the West contending for the 8 positions. It won’t take a lot to miss or make the playoffs. The Jazz seem to be rising to the challenge.
Oh, did we mention…thanks again Kevin for making the trade?
