Just Minutes Away

Minutes before the Jazz game and all through the house kids were screaming and yelling and running about.

The dishes were placed in the dishwasher with care, with hopes that my spot on the couch would be there.

The kids were now quiet getting ready for bed while visions of boys were running through their heads;

Now papa in his PJ’s and I in my sweats had just settled down for a game not to miss

When all of a sudden there arose such a clatter I flew from the couch to see what was the matter.  My husband just laughed at the sight of my face because nothing had happened that just wasn’t the case.

The glare on the TV showed dusting needed to be done but that didn’t stop me from seeing my team on the run

The men now appearing so tiny but quick with Coach Sloan behind and my he looks slick

More rapid than eagels the course they did run as Sloan whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:  “Now, Boozer! now, AK! now, Harpring and Memo! On, Brewer! on, Williams! on Okur and Korver! To the top of the court! hold onto the ball! Now shoot! shoot! Just shoot that ball!

As dry in the past that we’ve seen they can be, when they meet with an obstacle it’s hard to break free.  But to what to everyones surprise they did come with a streak of good luck and a run on some!

And then, in a jolt, I hear from the floor that AK has two fouls and now must sit out more.

As I turn my head I see time running out a shot was made but the ball did fall out.

The buzzer did buzz and now time they must wait for the score as of now is 26 -23, now some may wonder who is ahead but for me I know what is needed I get down on my knee

I look to the wise one for help with the game.  Boost up their spirits and give us a name.  A name to be proud of a name bold and strong.  Give us the strength to continue along.  I know we can do it I’ve seen it before the game is not over till the last bell has rang.

Sloan spoke not a word to the crowd but you see to the players he did and lips we could read.  Now what I was reading was not meant for me and the choice of wording you would rather not see.

With time running out a call I received so running to town missing part of the game.  I returned to hear yelling from within, hold on to the ball come on ref make that call.

Now my story is over but not the game with hopes that the outcome will not be a shame.

Giving you something to think about don’t you think?
