You’ve Got Moxie

‘Tezz - The Autograph Champ’

During a recent broadcast on ESPN, a commentator, (I believe it was Hubie Brown), said that he liked Deron Williams’ “moxie.” What a great word, moxie. I think the word moxie should be used much more in today’s vernacular. Of course, if it were used too much, it wouldn’t be as cool. I too like Williams’ moxie. During a broadcast on ABC, I actually heard another commentator (I think it was Mark Jackson) list his current choice for MVP of the league. His number one choice, was Kobe Bryant and I can see how that might be a possibility. His number two choice is something that I can’t agree with and that choice was Chris Paul. Now, I’m not the type of person to rattle a bunch of stats off the top of my head, so I can’t back my opinion numerically. And perhaps I have just a little bias, but Chris Paul for MVP? Who was Mr. Jackson trying to impress by that statement? Sure the guy is awesome, but in the last head to head match up with Deron Williams, the guy who showed the most moxie was D-Will.

Speaking of moxie, there were some awesome Jazz Grandmas who danced for halftime at the Jazz vs Mavs game on March 3. Sadly, I was still in such a deep state of shock at the Andrei Kirilenko incident, I didn’t get their names! I’ll find out and update everyone. They’re worth watching. One woman did a solo, including the splits, and then as the Bear offered her a wheelchair, she declined and made him get in the chair and danced her way out while she pushed the Bear off-court.

I met some great fans that night, including this young fan, who stood in line in the cold March wind for a chance to enter the arena to watch the pre-game shoot around and snag some autographs. Her name is Tezz Barnes; she’s a 10 year old from Murray Utah. As you can see in the photograph, she really cashed in that night.

The atmosphere in the arena on March 3, was like a playoff game. I expect that most of the home games from now on will be that way, and the Jazz must show what they’ve got every single night. We haven’t seen a regular season with this kind of atmosphere in a long time. If the Jazz continue to play well they’ll build up enough steam to carry them into being true contenders in the playoffs.

I was watching that night on TV and they only showed her doing the splits. Then they showed the face of (I think it was Josh Howard) and he was about to roll on the floor. I got the feeling that if he dared, he would have gone out on the floor and carried the lady off. It was a shot that was priceless. I’ll also have you know that this is a 65 year old grandma that can walk all the way up the stairs to the Solutions Center!!! ( if I rest just one time).

Linda, I have to stop and rest after the walk up the stairs to the second level. Then, about half-way up to my seats, I must pause and rest again to reach the end of my journey.

Annie….Why is it that I have a hard time believing that? I will get my workout this month (and I don’t mind at all) because I get to use my son’s ticket to 2 home games at the end of the month !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The group is called Jeans’ Golden Girls. They perform at least once a season. They’re one of my favorite halftime performers.

The Jazz need to have that “Moxie” on the road……….or they’re done in the second round of the playoffs.

Thank you Bob. As soon as I read it I thought, “why couldn’t I remember that?” Jean’s Golden Girls were awesome.

Mike W. I agree. I’ve been hearing some talk about town regarding the Jazz’s chances in the playoffs and I think people are trying to be realistic, but can’t hope being very optimistic as they continue to play well. These next road games are gonna be huge. Not because of the opponents, but because of their ability to “tell” if the Jazz can stay focused, and keep up the killer instinct mentality.

Maybe Jean’s Golden girls could dance at the playoffs. I am still optomistics!
