Dangerous Game

Chances are when you hear ‘Jazz Vs Bobcats in Salt Lake’ you think it’s an easy game. Sure the Jazz have not played well against the lower echelon teams in the Association – but they do win at home. Should be an easy game. Shouldn’t it? If you don’t think the Jazz Vs the Bobcats is a dangerous game, consider these statistics.

The Jazz have played the expansion Bobcats 7 times.
-Overall Record Vs Bobcats 3-4
-Overall Home record Vs Bobcats 1-2

That’s right. The only team the Jazz have a losing record against in the history of games played at the Delta Center/Energy Solutions Arena is the expansion Charlotte Bobcats.

Remembering that the Bobcats beat the Jazz the last time they met – The Bobcats seem to have the Jazz number.

Making things worse. The Jazz do not play well when they have more than one day off in between games.
-Overall record when the Jazz have one day off between games - the Jazz are 25-8.
-Overall record when the Jazz have 2 or more days off between games - the Jazz are 9-8.

The Jazz haven’t exactly been playing stellar ball as of late. Letting Toronto and Seattle stay in the game until the fourth quarter and being blown out by L.A. The Western Conference race is tight. If the Jazz want Home Court advantage of any kind – and let’s face it they need home court advantage. They have to put teams like Charlotte away early and keep them down. This is one of those games that is easy to overlook. Dangerously easy.

I was fortunate enough to have a ticket to the game last night and I observed a few things that I wonder if anyone else noticed. I had been to a game towards the first of the season and that is what I am comparing things against. There has been so much talk about the ESA arena lately but I thought the fans were very laxidaisy. (sp) Where was the noise? When I joined in on the DE-FENSE call I felt like I was the only adult yelling with the kids!!..I admit that the players were in a slow motion phase but couldn’t we maybe have helped that if we, as fans, were in it more? Maybe I am comparing it to how exciting the play-off game was that I went to last year? Somehow, even the Bear seemed tired.?!? Was I just the tired one or did anyone else notice this? As I said in a very late blog last night, I saw a little mild controversy between a couple players. WE DON”T NEED THAT!! Go Jazz. I get to come back on Monday night!!.

    Linda -

Last night is a tough game to use in any comparison. Although officially listed as a sell out - you could see that there was a lot of empty seats (probably a third of the upper bowl was empty). There just wasn’t the normal enthusiasm or excitment (even compared to the Sonic game). It was the Bobcats on a Tuesday. Friday and Monday should be slightly better.

Jonathan….Thanks. I was beginning to think I should stay home and yell while I was watching TV.
