Is Deron Williams the next John Stockton?

I think that Deron Willims is going to be the next John Stockton.  Deron has been the best point guard in the NBA since he came.  He has the talent to be like John Stockton.  Deron can shoot the ball, pass,  and steal.   Derson has someone he likes to “go to” a lot in a game, just like Stockton did. Deron loves to go to Carlos, as Stockton loved to go to Malone.

Deron is going to be in the Hall of Fame! Whenever he has had 14 or more assists in a game, the Jazz have won. Deron’s teammates and fans all love him because he scores a lot, passes the ball a ton, and he makes big plays like Stockton, when you need them.

Deron is a leader on the team. He is also a leader in many other ways, not just basketball. He respects his teammates; he isn’t cocky and he helps people.

Deron Williams can pass the ball so good, just like John Stockton could.

I agree that Deron is the replacement for John Stockton (pasty gangster). But the next Stockton? Not at this time Stockton played what 17 or 18 years? This statement can not be made now. In 10 or so years if DW is still playing @ this current level or better then a statement like that might be acceptable. For now DW is playing absolutely incredible ball! In my opinion he deserves the MVP! Every game DW plays it seems that he has improved from the game prior. The Jazz are definately the best all around team in the league. And praise coach Sloan for letting the shooters (Korver, DW, Okur, Brewer, Miles, Kirilenko and eventually Almond) shoot the three! By changing his outlook on offensive strategy he is able to beat the ever changing defense in todays NBA. Another praise to coach Sloan for an offensive strategy that allows for every shot that is taken in the style of his offense that is missed an easy oppurtunity for an offensive rebound. This only works if you stay in his offensive strategy which in my opinion is the best in the league. I feel Sloans pain! We need to get our butts back on D after our consistently productive offense scores! If we can do that then I believe we will be the next champions of this talent soaked league!

I think it’s actually an insult to both players to say he is the next Stockton. They play completely different games and have different strengths and weaknesses.

Deron’s game uses speed, power, and he has more of a scorers mentality.

John’s game used court vision, control, and a pass-first mentality.

Not that each player doesn’t do the same things as the other, but they just use them at different amounts.

I also agree with MG’s comment above. We need to see if Deron can stand the test of time. After all, he may not even be in Utah if we don’t sign him in a couple of years.

It will certainly take time to really make a judgement on this one. But if Deron continues to play this way, then he IS BETTER than John Stockton.

Right now I’d take DWill over Stockton at any point in Stockton’s career.

To me the ONLY area where Stockton was better was in his decision making as a passer. Still, DWill is very productive in finding his players. Though he does make some stupid passes which lead to turnovers.

The biggest thing to me that separates them is that Deron can flat out take over a game…when could that be said of Stockton???

I wonder why can’t people get away from the Stockton to Malone era it is over!!!!!!
Let Deron Williams be Deron, and Carlos Boozer be Boozer.
Williams is young and it shows sometimes, he is doing a great job.
Why would he want to be someone else>? Stockton was great and got his chances and was very quiet in all he did, a very decent person.
But he retired, he isn’t here anymore, he is gone, he isn’t coming back,
He lives in another state, he is no longer a Jazz player, he is a good memory. LET HIM LIVE IN PIECE, I personally think Deron Williams would like to be compared to himsel, as he gets better and more seasoned, to learn from his good point and from mistakes, not WHAT WOULD JOHN S. HAVE DONE!
Thank you very much for this opportunity
    Go Jazz,
    Go AK 47
Please, please please go I mean really go sloan!
