Who’d a’ Thunk It?

You had to love Memo’s comment, just before these last 6 games started, all against .600+ teams. I can’t find the exact quote, but it went something like this. “So, Memo how hard are these last 6 games going to be for the Jazz?” Memo said something like, “They are going to be hard for the other teams too!” Pure MONEY! Mint it, and take it to the bank!
The Jazz, without one of their starters, hold the World Champion Spurs to just 64 points, a franchise low score.
It might not just be hard for the Jazz, but it might be even harder for the other teams, as Memo suggested.
Well, Pops did pull the plug in the 3rd quarter, perhaps a tad early. However, the way the starters were getting rear ends served up on a platter, he threw in the towel, and declared it a TKO, leaving the starters to stare wide eyed into the headlights from the pine.
Timmy had the ball swatted, tipped, grabbed, seized and wrenched out of his hands so frequently, the refs had to give him a crying towel. Manu a Manu was stifled by Price and AK. Ronnie also did a nice job, while he was on Tony Longoria, fighting through screens. Fabio must have been thinking about his next Harlequin romance cover photo shoot, because he wasn’t in this game at all. Memo was not only MONEY on the 3, he was chairman of the board, with 16, while stifling Timmy. And, Memo, after the game, “don’t touch me, I’m still hot.” Yes indeed!
This was one of the best Jazz defensive efforts of the year and probably the biggest ‘clinker’ for the Spurs.
The Jazz continues to thrash opponents from the 3-point line, with 6 players combining for 10 out of 19, or 53%. That’s better than most teams are able to do from close range.
This was a big one, with 5 more just as significant.
Can they take their act on the road? How will it play in Peoria or New Orleans?
Get Boler to ‘buckle up’ because this is going to be a ‘nail biter!’
It doesn’t get any better than this, and we aren’t even in the playoffs yet!

Don’t we have to play these guys once more to make the playoffs or am I mixed up? If so, you can be sure that we had better be just as ready as last night!! They played so well that even with such an uneven score you were glued to the TV right up to the end. Good basketball!!!!!!!!!!!! I get to go to the game the last game at home and am really looking forward ti it.
Linda,
There is one more Jazz-Spurs game on the schedule, but it’s unlikely to affect whether the Jazz make the playoffs. For one thing, it’s the last game of the season. For another, the Jazz’s playoff bid essentially rides on their ability to clinch their division. Perhaps you were thinking of next week’s game against the Nuggets? At any rate, I think last night was the least I’ve seen out of Tim Duncan in a long time. I’ll be interested to see how he bounces back from that (lack of) performance.
Pudge…..Thanks for the info. Didn’t it help us when Denver lost today? All this playoff arrangements makes me crazy!!
It may not take till the last game to get us in the playoffs, but if we want homecourt in the first round it will take to the last game with some help from phoenix and houston by losing atleast one more than we do. Including us beating Houston.
We’ve already clinched with a Golden State Warriors loss to the Hornets tonight.
I just checked the standings after tonights games, and seeing that the Denver Thuggets lost to the SUPERSoncs (Thank you Seattle!), did some math, and if I am correct, with Denver being 5 games back, with 5 to go, if we win one more, or Denver loses one more, we clinch the division and the 4 seed for sure, with a possibility to move up just depending on how the rest of the west plays. I was at the Jazz Spurs game, watching, and screaming to no end, that was one of the loudest games I have ever been to in that arena. And I have to admit, watching Tim Clunkin’ struggle put no end to the smiles on my face! Go Jazz!!!
What a Game!
The Spurs are the most veteran team in the league. They can bounce back better than any team in the league. They did it last year after getting blown out in Utah in the playoffs. They lost by 27 or 26 points and then turned around to close out the series in SA.
The Jazz are a completely different team at home. It sucks that they’re so far apart, it’s like a Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde type of deal for the Jazz. They’ve played better over the past few months on the road, but still this could be a problem for them.
I think Popovich did the right thing in pulling his starters early. Had he left them in and the Jazz beat them by 15 or so, then that would have been a huge moral victory for the Jazz. It still was, but being that no starter on the Spurs played in the final 9 minutes of the game, which was when the Jazz were really able to spread the gap, it won’t be such a big deal to the Spurs. They’ll put it behind them and still have something to throw at the Jazz on the final game of the season.
Don’t forget, both teams could have something to play for…but mostly the Jazz. They desperately NEED homecourt to get very far in the playoffs.
