Kyle “The Crush” Korver

If Kyle Korver is known for anything, it’s his three point shooting. When he hits a few in the fourth quarter it usually crushes the hopes of the opposing team. But that’s just part of the story.
Kyle Korver is a popular guy. There is really no other way of saying it. I am not saying he doesn’t deserve it – he seemingly has it all, the movie star looks, endearing personality, ability to regularly hit the deep ball. Oh - and as an attractive female member of the media from out of town tells me - “plus he’s single.” There is not much the guy can do wrong. Maybe it’s the socks.
If you haven’t seen the arena lately – it’s littered with fans sporting Kyle Korver jerseys. Most of them women – but there are more than a fair share of dudes wearing #26. Every game there are signs and posters that are basically marriage proposals or testaments of undying love and devotion. There are chants too. When Korver starts dropping threes his name is chanted throughout the arena “Kyle (pause) Korver.”
It’s not unusual for a star player to get that much attention, to sell that many jerseys. But lets be honest – Korver is the 8th guy off the bench. Other bench guys like Brian Cardinal, Glen Davis, or even Luke Walton would be jealous. Especially on a night like March 25th where the Jazz ripped the Bobcats by 22 points. Korver had 10 points. Six of his teammates scored more, but that wasn’t enough to keep the spotlight off Korver. He was the guest on the post game show, where fans absolutely gushed. Later in the locker room Williams, Brewer, Okur, Boozer, Kirilenko, and Harpring who all had more then 14 points each, roamed free, hardly bothered. The media all huddled around Korver.
No one it seems is unaffected. The fans and media base that surround the Jazz, have a crush on Korver.
Disregarding the signs and chants. Not counting the swoons and attention. The “crush factor” is perhaps most recognizable in Korver himself. After a game, when the radio guys had got their last sound bite, when the papers had grabbed their last quote, I asked Korver about the popularity he gets from fans and media. He actually blushed and dropped his head. The strong confident voice he had just had as he discussed basketball became quiet and hard to hear as he looked at the ground embarrassed. “Man, I don’t like to talk about that” he says clearly uncomfortable with that kind of attention. He goes on to show his appreciation as he talks about how great everyone has been and how easy it has made the transition to a new team, but he doesn’t want to see himself as the “Star.” He blushed then changed the subject. It’s kind of endearing, like when a six year old is told a girl thinks he is cute.
When it comes down to it – he is a nice, humble, personable guy. What’s not to like about that. Maybe the socks?

The socks are great! One of his many endearing features!
His humility is one of the things that makes him special. When he started with the Jazz there weren’t many 3 pointers being made (competition is wonderful to make everyone get better) and he started to make them. That in itself was exciting, and then he happened to be single and cute. It didn’t take anything away from any other Jazz player but it was something new when we needed something to be excited about. The games previous to his coming were certainly not something to give us excitment. I think his becoming part of the Jazz team has made each player better ( unless they were not mature enough to understand why he was recruited). Kyle has the look and mannerisms that as a grandmother I would like to hug him so I understand the younger females feelings.
Last night was a real crusher but they showed great play most of the time. GO JAZZ!!
He’s a great player, don’t get me wrong, he just gets most of the attention because of his “looks”
Kyle is just refreshing. I just like that he goes out their and has a good time. He blends so well with the Jazz. You can tell that he likes to play ball. The fact that he is really cute is just a bonus. His socks remind me of playing ball with my friends growing up. We all wore socks like that.
I have to agree with Summer… the fact that Kyle is so cute is just a bonus (a really, really nice bonus, but still just a bonus…..LOL).
When he came to the Jazz, I think he brought a new energy and down-to-earth attitude that helped to revitalize the team some, as well as the fans. We’re loving the three point shot in Utah, that’s for sure…… but Kyle is contributing in other areas as well. He seems to be an intelligent, hard-working player who hustles, goes after loose balls, isn’t afraid of a little contact (sure knows how to take a charge!), is passing the ball really well (we’ve seen some really nice assists from Kyle), getting it to teammates when he doesn’t have a shot, even getting some blocked shots. Add to that the fact that his shot is a thing of beauty, and when those threes (or any of his shots, for that matter) are going in, WOWZA is it exciting to watch! He’s not going to make all of them….. sometimes they just don’t fall, but I think most people want to see him keep shooting that ball! The fact that he’s such a great free throw shooter is HUGE for the Jazz as well. I know we have some good free throw shooters, but it can and has been inconsistent…… and watching a game slip away because guys aren’t hitting free throws is almost physically painful! It’s so nice having Kyle in at the end of a close game, knowing the other team is going to foul, and knowing he is so good at the line.
So it’s all good! We can enjoy some great basketball, a great new aspect to the Jazz’s game…….. and have a Korver ‘Krush” at the same time…. it’s what they call a win-win for the fans (well, at least the female fans)! We probably don’t need to keep asking him about it though, when he’s obviously a little embarassed by it (at least when asked about it on camera, with a microphone in his face!), right? He knows we love him……. no need to keep putting him on the spot about it(:
Well he has GREAT looks and he is a GREAT player! He is amazing and can get the job done when the jazz need it the most! Which is what every player should have!!!
I absolutely love the “Korver Effect”. He has done so much for our team. He brings our play to a whole new level. You can just tell that he is one of those guys that other guys like to be around and strive to be like. He is a “good ‘ol boy” and he fits in perfectly with Jerry’s boys! Girechek brought bad morale to the team and I think that Korver does just the opposite! He is a total package: great ball player, great attitude, great deltoids, what more can a girl ask for? Although, I have always been a huge Okur fan, I have found a little extra space in my heart for Kyle.
Go Jazz!!!
Kyle is a guy who has it all but what makes him most appealing is the fact he is still a “regular guy.” Despite his success he is approachable and giving. He works with youth in the community, homeless shelters, and gives so much back! One day on Creighton’s campus I thanked him for being a positive role model. I was thrilled my sons had the opportunity to idolize someone who worked hard, had success but most all of was respectful, caring, genuine and giving. Thanks Kyle - my sons still look up to you!
Kyle korver just is so freaking amazing that i think that the trade was the the 2nd best steal next to pau gasol (wtheck with that main?) and im glad we have him.
Yeah…. I’d have to say the trade for Kyle was probably THE best trade, since we all know the ‘trade’ for Gasol wasn’t a REAL trade….. hmmmm….. I wonder who those guys think they are fooling? LOL
Well it’s good to hear that he is so appreciated in Utah…we’re definitely missing him in Philly! It’s been good to see how well he flows with the Jazz and his numbers have been up some too. I love that he’s getting the attention that he is too because he seriously deserves it.
Keep ballin’ Utah!
I LOVE KYLE KORVER.. his socks are a total turn on! and he is the most amazing player in the NBA, and not to mention the best looking. I HOPE HE TAKES US TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP.. we can kick butt!!
don’t diss the socks, to me that’s his trademark. that and being one of the hottest guys around. not gonna lie, he’s actually how i got hooked onto basketball. he played great for us in philly (missing him playing here)
and i think he’ll be great out there in utah and get a championship with them, hopefully, he deserves it. his humility is amazing also. my dad knows this one guy who does the camera for comcast sports here in philly, and the guy said kyle is one of the nicest players around. what other reasons could possibly make you love him more? i don’t know. keep up the good work kyle, i miss watching you play here in philly, God bless
you are like the hottest guy ever. i dream about marrying you. your freakin amazing. i love your sox. i wish i could be your girlfriend.
