Best Game of The Season

TV

The game against Dallas was the best game of the season. No question about it. You’re probably already wondering why I would say that.

Was it the best because Williams hit that miracle three to tie it? Nope, that was negated by the poor transition defense and Dirk’s dagger with .9 seconds left. The Jazz loss didn’t make it the best game of the year.

Was it because it was a Thursday night game with national exposure on TNT? Nope, they didn’t even broadcast the game and chose to give us another crapfest between the Lakers and Clippers when they could have aired the Jazz game early and moved the Warriors game to the night cap.

Was it because you could feel the playoff intensity building with each play as the game was close for almost the full 48 minutes? Nope, that kind of excitement has been going on for 4 weeks for all of the top 9 teams in the West. I’ve watched more basketball in the last month than I watched all of last season.

Here’s what made it awesome….

THE GAME AGAINST DALLAS WAS THE BEST GAME ALL SEASON BECAUSE IT WAS THE FIRST GAME KJZZ BROADCAST IN HIGH DEFINITION!!!!!!!! Yes that sentence deserves to be in all caps. Yes that sentence deserves eight exclamation points.

You see, there are two types of people in this world - those who have HD, and the blind (figuratively and literally).

If you don’t have any HDTV - go get one. If you already have one and you aren’t subscribing to HD - get your act together (I’m talking specifically to my friend Rob here!!!).

You don’t know how happy I was to hear on the radio yesterday that the game was going to be broadcast in HD on KJZZ. OK, maybe you do know how elated I was if you are my wife or one of my close friends and know how obsessed I am with HD. Suffice to say, this is a monumental leap forward for Larry Miller and the whole organization. True, there have been many Jazz games this season in HD on ESPN or NBATV and even a couple on FSN when the Jazz where on the road, but this was the first local broadcast in HD. I loved every minute of it.

I’m hoping last nights broadcast is a portent of things to come. Will every game be in HD next season? One can only hope. At least the Jazz are ready - which means every playoff game should be broadcast in 1080i glory.

So I hope you all enjoyed the game as much as I did. Even though the team didn’t win, I walked away with a smile on my face.

I don’t know about the 20 games on KJZZ - But next year the 60 games that will broadcast by FSN Utah will all be in HD.

Was the HD game OTA HD or was it carried by one of the satelite or cable providers? If OTA what was the HD channel ? 14.1 ??
