My Take: Jazz vs Rockets

‘Failure To Launch’ (Melissa Majchrzak - NBAE/Getty Images)
FINAL SCORE — JAZZ 105 Rockets 96
Memo does it again 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Offensive Rating for tonight was again fantastic - 121 was the rating (league average is 109 and the Jazz average is 115) This is against the #2 defensive team in the NBA
The Defensive Rating for the game was 111 which is pretty good.
Defensive Rebounding was a key the Jazz got 83% of the defensive rebounds
Offensively the Jazz got 34% of offensive rebounds. Combine those two and it is a domination on the glass.
Rockets don’t allow the three and the Jazz only went 3 of 16 from three. Plus, the Jazz only got 38 points in the paint
5:49 4th Quarter — Jazz 89 Rockets 74
This is a really hard fought hard played game
The Rockets play as hard as any team I have seen this year. They battle for everything. the best part is the Jazz are matching it. The Jazz just had a possession where they got 5 chances.
Every rebound is contested, every shot is contested, every cutter is bumped. This is playoff basketball.
Scola is terrific, he has 22 and 12 — how the Spurs let him go I will never know. If they had him this would not be a closely fought Western Conference.
End of 3rd quarter — Jazz 84 Rockets 67
Game got very spirited for a part of the third quarter. So tough picks, big hits and the calls didn’t go the Jazz way.
The Rockets play very very hard
Ronnie Price didn’t do a great job controlling the point tonight
Every rebound is a battle. Everything is tough tonight.
5 jazz players in double figures
8:52 3rd Quarter — Jazz 65 Rockets 45
Great start.
AK is an involved as I have seen him all year. Battier is noticeably limited due to an injury and he is going right at him. He also just hit a three and his entire game is in rhythm.
Jazz 4th and 5th options are playing great and when that happens you can forget about it.
This is impressive, the Rockets had won 5 in a row before losing last night
Halftime — Jazz 56 Rockets 41
Very nice work.
Jazz close the half on a 14-3 run. Deron was in control
The Rockets like to play physical and beat you up and the Jazz were to ones administering the hits.
Harpring had 7 points, Milsap had 7 and Korver added 4 and 3 assits. Very good bench work
In the 2nd quarter the Jazz average 1.5 points per possession. They only had 1 turnover in the quarter.
2:33 2nd Quarter — Jazz 48 Rockets 39
Shane Battier is playing tonight.
This is really impressive by the Jazz. Their defense is very good and very active.
The Rockets play the game very hard and have a great defensive scheme.
The Jazz are fighting hard to stay in their game and they are finally getting the dividends.
The Rockets play with 8 to 9 feet in the paint at all times. This forces the Jazz to play on the outside but the Jazz are finding ways to get inside and make plays.
Paul Milsap had some highlight reel plays in the opening part of the quarter.
End of 1st Quarter — Rockets 22 Jazz 21
Jazz started well up 8-2.
The Rockets are a very good defensive team. They take away the three’s (Jazz are 0-4) and they take away the rim (just 8 points in the paint).
McGrady got to the line for 4 free throws and had 10 points
They Rockets are forcing the Jazz into non-paint 2 point shots and it is suffocating the offense
Brewer got two fouls immediately and CJ Miles played the majority of the quarter
Korver hits a three to end the Q

First time to this site. Really like the way you recap the game.
Rockets played hard. The Jazz played hard enough to keep the game out of reach. Amazing how fast they are developing as a team.
Haven’t been following basketball for a terribly long time but here’s my take.
The chemistry of the Jazz is looking really good. They’re peaking at the right time. Derron Williams is an amazing general. Memo is just plain bringing it. Millsap / Korver / Brewer all very very solid. Kirlinko to some extent as well. (Is it just me or did Kirilinko’s remarks after the game almost sound like he was finally becoming coachable??)
Harpring doing a great job of playing bully. Price and Miles really developing well though they do seem to be showing some jitters in the past couple of games.
Boozer… Boozer - This kind of brings me to something that’s been on my mind. Boozer was playing really well until that game where the Jazz were in a tough stretch and the fans booed the Jazz during the game. Lack of effort or whatever I guess is the reasoning.
Listening to Boozer after the game I think he took this as an insult. They play their hearts out for us. They go through a bad stretch and we’re calling for a coaching change. We’re pointing fingers at players. Now we boo them. These are our guys and I think this has been weighing on Boozer’s mind and here’s why. (Mind you I am among the guilty parties)
I think he looks at us as fairweather friends. We’ve got their back…. When they’re winning. When they really need us to be there for them. We’re nowhere to be found.
Nobody likes a fairweather friend and who would want to play hard for them? Anyways, since that time his play seems to have suffered. Yes, it’s probably a combination of that and working more on the defensive part of his game, but I think we should look at ourselves as fans and try to always give them our support.
On the subject… Derek Fischer man. He gave us everything he had. During the playoffs last year his daughter is in the hospital and it’s life threatening? This is a standup guy. He LOVES his daughter. Can you imagine that someone you love is in the hospital and you’re going to give up time being with them to play a game?? That’s how much he didn’t want to let us all down. The guy is a stud and he really showed us some love.
He went to LA so he can be closer to his daughter. Do you really think he has much loyalty to this LA team that traded him? I mean he loves the game and he wants to play. But which team does he really love more? Or I should say did.
He’s 34 going on 35? He played his heart out for us when we needed him. He comes with the Lakers to play in Salt Lake and we boo this guy. Are you kidding me?? After all he did for us?? Unbelievable. (I have to admit I was booing as well - Just the thought of him playing for the Lakers made me sick)
Like I said before he has the killer instinct. Whenever we play the Lakers he’s going to kill us - I guarantee it. You know what else? The Laker team can see the disrespect we’ve shown Derrick and they’re going to kill us. I know we hate the whole pompous Lakers organization but they DO have the killer instinct.
Show the guy some love. When he enters the game cheer for him like you’ve never cheered before. He really deserves it. Besides, then he’d have no reason to hate us and much less of an incentive to want to rain on our parade.
This is a really fun team to watch. We’ve got a good thing going here.
Go JAZZ!
I agree with your comments about Derek Fisher. Who the hell do the jazz fans think they are, bunch of ignorant idiots. We have the worst fans in the league as far as respect goes. Utah Jazz fans (not all of them), suck! But these sucky jazz fans make the rest of us look horrible.
Hope you can answer a question that is really bugging the daylights out of me. I am from Cape Cod,MA. I am also a huge Carlos Boozer fan. Have been since his days at Duke, when he was with the Cavs(which I wish he still was by the way because they appreciated his efforts which Utah fans do not) and I now try to watch all the Jazz games via NBA League Pass.
Booz is one of the top 5 power forwards in the league(my belief). He ranks in the top 20 in scoring(18th),top 10 in rebounding(7th) and field gold %.
The Utah fans say his defense is horrible, but he is 2nd on the team in steals, 1st on the team in defensive rebounds etc. You know all these stats.
Why is it they don’t like him. Why is it they want DWill who granted is extremely sound, as league MVP. Booz was and NBA All Star. He scored a double/double in the allstar game. He has 51 double/doubles this year. He averages over 20 points per game and over 10 rebounds per game. Not too many players in the league can quote those stats. Yes, Boller was stating last night that DWill averages 19 pts per game and over 10 assists per games and he’s rated as MVP quality, but so isn’t Booz. He just is not appreciated!!!!!!
I firmly believe, regardless of what the announcer say about how they hope they have the DWill to Boozer pick and roll for many years to come, that Booz gets traded ASAP!!!!! He needs to go to a team where he can really be appreciated and be the true leadeer that he is. He’s one of the greatest guys and puts up with a lot of crap from the Utah fans and never says a word about it. I give him alot of credit…… He’s never cheered when he enters or leaves a game as most of the other players are and he just goes out and plays so well each and every night and gets crap from the “wonderful “Utah” fans.
I’m a member of the Salt Lake Tribune Utah Jazz Thread Site and My God do they rip Booz apart and if I say anything positive about him they call me a “Boozer Lover”, so I just keep my comments to myself and now just read the treads and laugh.
I’m hoping y9ou’ll read this and possibly get back to me with your thoughs because its been bothering my not just this year but for a couple of years now.
BOOZER NEDDS TO GET OUT OF UTAH…………..
Richard,
I have to disagree with you. Jazz fans love Boozer. I think you might be seeing things through Cav colored glasses.
Boozer is a top 5 power forward. Definitely. I think you underestimate how much he is appreciated. He is a great player. So what if people knock his defense. He is not a lock down defender. He isn’t perfect. This must not come across on the broadcast – but every time Boozer is announced or comes in and out of a game the fans ‘Booz’ him. It sounds like Booing but with a Z. It’s deep it’s loud, it rocks the arena. His picture is up all over the arena – his jersey is on the back of a ton of fans. The fans have embraced him like they did Malone. Who fans knocked from time to time as well – it’s the nature of the game. Do you really think it would be better in Cleveland?
So what if Deron Williams gets the MVP chants – he is one of the top 3 point guards in the league. He is not just a Statistical leader – he is the vocal and floor leader – along with Boozer. They are both great players who have bought into a great system.
My advice is to stock up on Utah Jazz Boozer jerseys. He isn’t going anywhere.
The second blog says most of what I was going to say. I am at several of the games and join in yelling “booz” when he comes in and out. I will admit that the first time I heard it I had to ask my husband why they were booing. He told me to listen carefully. Then I could hear that it was boozzzzzz that they were yelling. I will agree that we have a group of idiots that bood Fisher. When we play them in the finals (possible) then all those that are upset with the group of idiots should make a concentrated effort to stand and cheer. I think we all do a lot of bad things by omission. You also have to remember if you are listening by radio you are listening to someone who has their own opinions. They are suppose to be neutral but it is human to inflect ones feelings a little. Somewhere you have gotten the false idea that the Jazz don’t love Boozer (proably because of the boozzzzzzzz, but everyone I know agrees that he is in the nucleus of the team and we would be devastated if he were to leave.
Thanks guys
Quite possibly I have misunderstood. As I said I’ve watched the games via NBA League Pass and Boomer and Boler are on there and they just love Booz but I’ve gotten a different feeling from the fans.
On the NBA TV channel they have the top 10 MVP league candidates and DWill is ranked #6. For a while Booz was ranked #7 but fell off the top 10. According to the NBA website he’s ranked #12 currently. I believe he should be higher as the Jazz would be no where w/o the Booz Cruize. Oh well, thanks Linda and Jonathan for responding and look forward to possibly hearing from you again.
Thanks
Richard
Richard,
Booxer is a victim of a hot start as far as the MVP goes. The majority of his Double Doubles in the first part of the season. Williams Has had most of his 52 DD in the last half of the season.
Both being that good. They might hinder each other by splitting votes.
To Jazzfan - Jazz fans certainly have a lot of passion for their team and sometimes it would seem misguided. They have a lot of positives but I do agree with you that the real test for the fan base as a whole is not whether we can be good winners but whether we can be a class act and be good losers as well. I think, as in other areas of life, we will be limited by what we can accomplish until we learn this and we certainly won’t be deserving of any respect until we do.
Richard - Good input. I haven’t been to the site you mention but if people are putting Boozer down that’s a shame. I think you are absolutely correct about the quality of Boozers play.
Johnathan covered your questions really well as to my thoughts on Boozer so I won’t say a lot on it but you’ve got to love Boozer. He’s like a caveman with that guttural roar when he talks to the ball. “GET OUT OF THERE!” “GET OVER HERE!” and all of the other funny expressions you can hear him yell throughout the game. I love it. I do think you are correct that if Boozer isn’t feeling the love he’ll be quick to leave.
I have a question that I’ve been wondering for some time. You’ve been following Boozer for quite some time. Why do you think he left Cleveland and came to Utah?
Johnathan - Good stuff man. You’re very knowledgeable about the game.
Linda - I’m with you. How great would that be to hear some cheers for Fisher? Win or lose that would make my day.
inconsistancy on the road we have a 37-11 record since december 31st and have a winning record on the road since then! I don’t know what a team needs to do to prove they are legit but either way we will win a lot of play off games this year!
Good Thread Mason. Thanks for the support.
As far as Booz goes. He came to Utah with only one year remaining on his contract in Cleveland. The owners had gone to him with an offer that they would give him at the end of the season he left. They did not come throughm, but said that they would definately fulfill the offer at the end of the next year which would be his final season with the Cavs. He told them of his displeasure but would wait.
However, Utah after finding out what happened, made him an offer which we all know about now, which he couldn’t refuse for the security of he and his family.
However, in Cleveland’s eyes he was know as a “golddigger” and a “trader”, when if fact, Cleveland is the party that is really to blame as they made an offer that they never made good on.
See, at that time what they were doing was putting on their monies into LeBron’s contract to make sure he was comfortable and wouldn’t wine and complain and they came up short supposedly for Booze. Oh well, they paid the price because I’m sure they wished they had him now.
They never knew he would develop into the PF he is today. See, his final year there, he averaged over 15pts per game and over 11 rbs per game, but the amazing fact about those stats is that there were no plays ever run for him at all. He got his points strictly thru hard play and hussle and he has developed into one fantastic player from that.
So that the story of the Cleveland debacle. There’s been alot of rumors and crap, but the truth is, Carlos Boozer is a straight guy who would not screw anyone and that includes the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Richard, Thanks for the detailed explanation. Makes a lot more sense to me now.
Come to think of it, Cleveland gave loud boos to Boozer when we played there. Come on fans, we can be higher than them!!
the rockets look like little kids. macgrady is a little boy. boozer rules!!!
