‘Mrs Jazz – The SuperFan’
Posted by J R Stewart on April 21, 2008
I’m married to a superfan.
Bethany Stewart, my sweet wife, is a super Jazz fan, a Jazz Fanatic!
We have been season ticket holders for 19 years, so, she’s been rooting for the Jazz from the beginning. She knows very little about other sports, but has always enjoyed basketball. Our 6 children grew up going to every Jazz home game, now we have almost 20 grandchildren.
She has old Jazz scrapbooks, which have captivated former and then current players. She took one scrapbook to a Karl Malone signing, remember back to the days of easy access to the players, and Karl spent quite a few minutes, holding up the line, while he looked through it and marveling at his clippings, before signing.
We used to pull our boys out of school to go over and watch the Jazz practice at the Sports Mall. One time John Stockton even stayed a few minutes and played a little “2 on 1″ with them, letting them dribble around him for lay ups.
When we travel, and the Jazz are on TV, we have imposed on friends, and some strangers, with a satellite TV, to allow us to watch a game. Invariably, they start asking about the Jazz, and she starts throwing out opinions, statistics and facts, which has them in total awe. Her one grandson, who is a total basketball junkie, proudly boasts to his friends, that his grandmother knows more about basketball, and the Jazz, than anyone.
When on vacation, she has put up with some pretty sleazy sports bars, in some backwater towns, just to watch the Jazz play. We always have to find a hotel with WiFi, which can be a challenge in Eastern Europe or Central America, so we can listen to “Hots” call the game over the Internet. However, most of the time you can find her sitting her seat at the old Salt Palace, former Delta Center or Energy Solutions Arena, in her Jazz jersey, with “MrsJazz” on the back.
Her email is MrsJazz@hotmail.com. (You get the point)
Go Jazz!

There’s always a clamor for any extra tickets we have, so they only go to a few games a year. Our seats are too far to the side of the TV cameras to get any jumbotron exposure.
MrsJazz corrected me. We’ve been season ticket holders for about 28 years, not 19. Another senior moment.

JR you are an inspiration to younger season ticket holders everywhere. I too married a great Jazz fan. In fact it was one of my “requirements” in a mate. I knew that if she wasn’t, she would end up leaving me during the long NBA season.

How can all of you have had season tickets for 29 years when you hardly look much older than that?? When I married my husband I knew his life revolved around sports. He was playiing college ball when I met him. I knew I could do one of two things. I could either learn all I could about the sports he loved or I could sit home alone a lot and talk a different language. I bought books, read and watched all I could on TV and now I am almost a more dedicated Jazz fan than he is. I try to teach that to daughter-in-laws but they don’t understand it. Guess a lot of the younger set just has to learn the hard way. I certainly wished I was there when the players were more available!!!!!!!

Are the two boys pictured the guys that steal the show at halftime–dancing on the jumbotron? It seems that I’ve seen them before.
