Very Very Bad Call?

I went to bed after Game 2 feeling content. Everything seemed ok. The game went about as I had imagined it would. The post game on TNT was very complimentary to the Jazz with Charles Barkley suggesting the Jazz can beat the Lakers. Magic Johnson even said that he always roots for Jerry Sloan. Yep, the world was at peace.

I woke up this morning to the “flop heard around the league.” Maybe I should have watched the local postgame show or at least tuned them in on the radio before morning. TNT had not aired the comments made by Coach Adelman or Tracy McGrady where they talk about Kirilenko flopping at the end of the game.

“He put his hand on Kirilenko’s shoulder and Kirilenko fell back like a truck just hit him,” Adelman said. “And you’re going to make that call at that time, in this game, when six seconds before Luis went to the basket and got hammered and the same guy didn’t make the call?”

That “same guy” is referee Tony Brothers, who McGrady would criticize by name.

“You can’t call that,” McGrady bemoaned. “I like Tony Brothers, but that was a bad call. Very, very bad call. Three points down, crucial point in the game and Kirilenko flops. He flops and you call a foul on that? It was a bad call.”

As you can imagine most Jazz fans are bothered that this is even an issue. After all there were bad calls that went against the Jazz. The No call on D-Will. The Blocking foul on a very stationary Ronnie Price. Various other hard fouls… You get the point.
I am not a fan of the flop. I didn’t like it when B-Russ flopped in a Jazz uniform – I can’t stand it when Ginobili does it every time he is near the ball (Frankly I am surprised he stays upright on Free Throws). Kirilenko acted. He “flopped” even though it was more of a “flail” at the end of a foul. But at the bottom of the Kirilenko controversy is a foul. He was hit. It was called. I don’t think it was a make up call – it was just a oddly called game “evening” itself out – the way they always do. You can’t put yourself in situations to lose games like that. Houston should have made some more free throws – 16 of 26 from the line is far from stellar.

As far as the media goes – especially national media, I have to say as a whole they did the right thing by addressing the situation and not blowing it out of proportion or taking anything away from the Jazz. I think Dan Patrick hit the nail on the head when he addressed Adelman saying “you benefitted from Vlade Divac flopping for years, you can’t complain now.”

To McGrady – I have to ask, why were you passing in the first place? Sure Jackson hit the three – but after the whistle with play slowing down. In that “crucial point” of the game – shouldn’t that shot be yours? Kirilenko was coming but you could have got the shot off easy. They still might have called the foul but that was the shot Stars take T-Mac. I can’t believe you made the call to pass the ball. That was a bad call. Very, very bad call.

man, you are soo right! How can any team REALLY complain against the FLOP/Flail, Its been around since the dawn of time, and its not going away. but i do see where T-mac is coming from, i mean IF and that if is a huge IF, IF that had been a game deciding call i would be upset to. but c’mon Tracy how can you say anything with a 4th quarter like that… good luck next time Rockets!!!
    Jazz in 4~!!

So everyone in the NBA flops and when Ak does it he gets critized of it. That is the biggest bull i’ve heard ever, lets go look at the last 10 Rocket fouls. My bad we can’t because they were NOT CALLED!! plus not to mention the hard foul on Williams and on Harpering, as well as the blocking foul on Price, it is just stupid and the Refs favored Houston a lot it was easily seen, but even with the refs on their side they can’t win. So they have no luck in Utah where we are 37-4 and if the refs favor the Rockets here the refs won’t hear the end of it from our crowd. The Jazz have this one Locked up with a sweep. This is the year Utah takes it all the way and wins the Championship. They can beat any of these teams they play, and can easily beat any of the teams in the east including Boston who they beat by 20 last time they met.

seriously 1 point in 2 4th quarters, horrible T-mac horrible, you were ripping on your teammates after game 1 the refs after game 2 when is it your turn?

First of all Korver was shoved two seconds before the alledged flop and no one is complaining about that now. And Deron Williams got hipchecked into aggrevading an injury with no call. On the Utah Possetion before Kirilinko got mugged on a rebound and Utah lost the ball with no foul called. So there is no need to complain from Houston they had there fair share of breaks from the officials. Second, Scola! You can’t reach your arm out to hold somone back from blocking a shot. Whether or not AK47 added an acting job, its a foul!

Brandon has it right. The Rockets had biased officials the entire game. D Will does not get the respect that other big names get, therefore, he doesn’t get the calls that the big names get. The Rockets can complain all they want but they flop just as much as the Jazz did in that game. The Jazz will sweep the Rockets for sure now. And i really don’t feel bad for Tmac. Sorry but you will never get out of the first round Tmac. I hope the Jazz meet with Houston in the first round next year to so that the Jazzz can personally make sure that he remains out of the second round! Go jazz. 2008 NBA CHAMPIONS

I am so tired of the Rockets making excuses for their losses. Especially the almighty T-mac. Wasn’t he going to carry this team on his back? All the announcers talked about is how T-mac wants the ball at the crucial points of the game so that he can make something happen. I am sure that this makes his team feel good about their efforts. Besides, when it came down to the wire, T-mac was no where to be found. Maybe if he tried opening his eyes all the way, he would be able to see that Scola’s move was clearly a foul! (he might also be able to hit a few more shots!) The NBA needs to wake up and realize that the Jazz are an amazing team and we are taking it all the way this year!!!!

This kind of crap from Houston is indicative to their play processes. They play one on one hoop, no team concept. They have 1 or 2 players who can put up some huge numbers. But with this kind of system, its doomed to lose to a team that plays true team hoop. The whining about the ref’s should get them fined from the NBA, as they are not supposed to publicly announce those kinds of issues in public. I see it as we got one call that shoulda been ours, out of the 30 others that they missed. And yet Houston got calls for them all night long. My mom tries to say “it evens out in the end”. And it did, the one call we finally got at the end, helped save 3 points. And yes it was a GOOD Call, if it had been our players defending, and Scolo getting pushed out in the same manner, they would expect that call, as would anyone. Frankly, I lost a lot of respect in Adelman and T-Wac over that whining match about the refs. Play, Deal with what the refs do, and move on. Period!
GO JAZZ! WILL BE THERE ROOTING FOR YOU IN MY NORMAL SEAT! Series over in 4!!!

Time you manned up tmac. If you are going to be the star of the team be the star and don’t blame your losses on everyone else. You want every win to be credited towards you, but when you loose you are always the first to point your finger at someone else.

Hey if you really want to talk about flopping call up the two Argentinians named Manu Ginobli and Louis Scola. They and Tim Duncan are the pinnacle of flopping. Jazz don’t flop. The spurs do. Go whine to them T-Mac. I’ll be rejoicing when the jazz finally have a trophy

You must be kidding me! It appears that Jazz fans are watching a different game. Not a single BLOG I have read makes any sense. I have never heard more BS, and that’s a capital BS, in my life. And get off T-Mac…the guy is playing great. Just look at the stats, and how he has carried this team. And then to have to listen to the media bash him right in his face. You would lash out also, no…there would be a foul or a flop. The Jazz did more of that than any team in the league….I just looked it up. So get off your high horses guys, and come back down to earth. This series isn’t over.
The Rockets at least kept it close. The Jazz should be having no problem with the Rockets without two of our starting players. The games should be blowouts. If the Jazz were missing Deron and….well hell….any other player, these games wouldn’t even be close. The Rockets would be beating them by 20 or so.
Now that the Rockets have at least our point guard back…LOOK OUT, and put the brooms back in the closet.
If you guys would have lost the first two games of a series at home, there would have been a riot in Utah, the officials would have been extradited and there would have been more crying about the officiating….it would have been heard by Yao Ming’s family in China.
Oh and by the way…. don’t hold your breath. The Rockets can still win this series.

Welcome to the land of no sense. Your reply just showed how much you belong. T-Mac played a great first half in game 2… and then he disappeared. I could see how you might have missed it though, considering T-Mac took the fourth quarter off in both games in Houston – why not the fans too -right? I don’t think people would be dissing T-Mac if he didn’t try to throw everyone on his team under the bus with statements like “How is it my fault they get easy layup’s?” No one is saying T-Mac isn’t a star, they are just saying maybe he should act like one.

“foul or a flop. The Jazz did more of that than any team in the league….I just looked it up.” I think you meant that you just “made it up.” No one keeps stats on flops. And you called Jazz fans full of it. Kettle, pot.

Did you really compare the Rockets PG to Williams? Brother they don’t even belong in the same sentence. Skip had a good game 3 but I will make you a deal. You check your illusions of grandeur and we will put away the brooms. Nice win in game 3.

How can anyone associated with Houston complain about flopping when Battier flops like a fish out of water every time his man has the ball in the paint?
