Their Turn

It’s over. It’s done. The torch has been passed. It’s time everyone got on board with this. Chris Paul and Deron Williams are the top point guards in the National Basketball Association. Nash and Kidd had a good run. Their run is now over. It’s done. The next generation of point guard leadership is here.

The four top point guards have arguably played on the same level all season. For Nash and Kidd the season is now over. Williams and Paul play on into the second round – a tribute to both of the guards and their brilliant start to the post season.

It’s important we notice this event. It’s important we respect it. When the debate is brought up during the summer and when next season begins – we need to remember it. Preseason rankings need to reflect Paul and Williams in the lead. All-Star buzz in the crowded Western Conference needs to start with their names. Put them on your MVP watch list. It’s begun, their time is here. Their time is now.

Williams vs Paul talk has gone on for years. Let it continue to rage on. It should go on for years to come. It’s time they sat down with the NBA marketing staff. It’s time for Williams and Paul to get the Christmas day billing on ABC. It’s time they sat down with any marketing staff – they are Coke vs Pepsi.

Call them impatient, Paul and Williams haven’t exactly waited their turn. They’ve stepped up and taken the role. It should be Parker and Davis taking the lead from Nash and Kidd. It’s not, It’s Paul and Williams.

When it comes to the Olympic Basketball team this summer the debate should not be who makes the team, Williams or Paul – it should be who starts, Williams or Paul. If Team USA wants to keep a third point guard they need to look a tier down. The third string battle should be between Kidd and Billups.

It’s time to tune in, turn on, and show up to watch these two. They are at the top. They are the best of what the NBA has to offer. Who cares about who has next - they’ve got now.
