Win The Next Game

‘It Ain’t Over Till…’
‘She Ain’t Ready To Sing!’

It’s a simple concept and you hear it all the time. Just play “one game at a time.” Every coach says it, and they mean it!

It doesn’t matter if it’s game 1 of an 82 game season or the next game in a 7 game playoff series. All you can control is the next game. If you are down 0-3 or are 3-0, all you have to do is “win the next game.” The series isn’t over until someone actually wins the 4th game.

It doesn’t matter how bad the odds are. It doesn’t matter what history there is. It could have never been done before. It still makes no difference whatsoever, if you “win the next game.” Just like Boston did to the Yankees.

It’s like flipping a coin. Flip it a million times and it will come up heads almost exactly 500,000 times. During that time you will have multiple flips come up heads sequentially, maybe 20 or 30 times in a row, during those million flips. The odds of flipping 30 heads in a row must be astronomical. Even if you just flipped heads 29 times, what are the odds of flipping heads again? Sill just 50/50.

So it goes with the playoffs. If the Jazz can just “win the next game”, the Lakers can’t win the series. No matter how bleak the odds are, you don’t have to win 4 in a row, just the next game.

David can beat Goliath. The Jazz did beat the heavily favored Rockets in game 7, on the road, despite losing the first two games away. When the Jazz were down 0-2 last year, they didn’t have to win 4 out of 5 games, they only had to “win the next game.”

As Dick Motta used to say, “it ain’t over till the fat lady sings”, and even if she’s sittin’ on your chest, squeezin’ the last breath out of you, if you can win just one more game, IT AIN’T OVER!

Why are all of you Jazz fans booing Derek Fisher? They guy with the “Liar” sign that covered his eye in reference to Fish’s daughter is disgusting. You fans should be embarrassed!!

    Go Lakers!!

Any comment by the Jazz fans as to why they boo Fish?

That’s an easy question to answer.

Fish is now a hated Laker. No team is hated like the Lakers. The feeling is intense, especially in Utah.

Fish stated he wanted to go to a team “closer to his daughters medical care”, which was, and still is, in New York City. The Jazz let him out of his contract, because it was a bad contract for the Jazz and he was stifling the growth of Ronnie Brewer, and would have done the same to Ronnie Price. Also, it was “on the surface”, the right thing to do.

There were 28 other teams, other than the hated Lakers, most being closer the NYC, than LA, but even in LA, he could have gone to the Clippers, and he would have been cheered, upon his return.

Fish is not a very good “point guard” in the traditional sense and the offense the Jazz run, but he is a perfect fit in the triangle offense.

It was win-win for both sides. The Jazz didn’t have to buy out his contract, could develop young players, had an extra roster spot and had an extra 6 million/year to extend D-Will’s contract, next year. Fish got to go back to the team which he loves and drafted him, his wife’s family and his friends and the triangle, where he thrives. He’s doing much better in LA than he ever did in SLC.

The fans also booed The Mailman, after he signed on with the hated Lakers, so it’s not just Fish. We respect Coach Pill and Kobe, but we hate their arrogant, supercilious, defaming, disingenuous personalities. We hate most of their fans, who come in here and make asses out of them selves.

    Go Jazz!!!

Some people are just straight ignorant and rude. They may be a Jazz fan, but they are just one person. To group in all the other tens of thousands of Jazz fans in with these few crude people is just straight ignorant.

I booed all the Lakers equally in the 2 games versus them I’ve seen this year. In fact, I boo every opposing team to step foot in ESA. To think that me booing at the Lakers, means that I’m booing Derek Fisher is just plain stupid.

    Go JAZZ!!

P.S. Jazzaholic, I love your input on things, keep em’ coming.

You can say that the Lakers are booed as a team but the sound on the TV doesnt lie. There are boos and plenty of them each time Fish handles the ball and they go away when he doesnt have the ball.
