We will be here tomorrow posting stories and opinions, reviewing the past season and gearing up for the next one. We will be here leading up to the draft and through out Rookie Summer Camp (Yes there will be a Rocky Mountain Revue). We will follow D-Wills and others exploits in the Olympics and all the contract fun in the fall.

I know it’s early but i’m excited for the draft (3 picks) plus the free agent market is going to be great. I expect the Jazz to make a run at a guy like Desagana Diop or draft someone like Roy Hibbert. It’ll be interesting to see the way O’connor and Sloan go. I think a couple moves/draft picks and improvement/consistency from our big 3 (D-Will, Booz, and Okur) will give us a real shot next year. If it was me I would trade Boozer for draft picks and sign Elton Brand but hey i’m fickle. It was a good year, thanks Jazz. We’ll kill the Lakers next year
First of all justalars, I would be excited about the 3 picks and the free agent market as much as you are if I were a Utah Jazz fan, but since I’m a Lakers fan I’m not. But what’s funny is that you mentioned Desanga Diop and Roy HIbbert. Diop is no threat offensively and plays decent defense. Where would he fit in your front line of Okur, Kirilenko, Boozer, Millsap, Harpring, & Collins? And Roy Hibbert is a terrible big man coming out who has no game whatsoever. he can’t even stay on the court, has no post moves, and needs to cut that ugly fro. You can talk about killing the Lakers next year but we’ll be getting Bynum, Ariza, and Mihm back. We also have some draft picks, and the free agent market. So if your Jazz couldn’t beat us without all that what makes you think they’ll beat us with them? Sorry buddy but we got a dynasty in the mold. It was lovely blogging with you. =)
Once again a Laker fan saying how much better they are then the rest of the World. When the Jazz do great I don’t laugh in the face of the opponent I just say cool we won and move on. Laker fans on the other hand have to beat you and then laugh and kick you while your down. Let us teams who don’t probably have a chance just wish O.K. That is all we have, we don’t have endless pocket books like the Lakers, we have an owner is very stingy with the money and us as fans feel cheated every year because the owner doesn’t give a darn about his franchise. We can hope and wish but unfortunatley for true Jazz fans, that is all it is, a wish. If the Lakers lose I would love to see where that Laker fan is, probably routing for another team.
Ashley……that is just some sorry sounding loser talk if I ever heard it.
I didn’t mean to offend you or the Jazz, but I will say I am a die hard Lakers fan and a die hard basketball fan. So if the Lakers do lose, I will be cheering for the team that I want to win not because I’m jumping ship but because I love the game. Although I highly doubt this scenario will happen. I happen to be a Jazz players fan. Deron Williams is probably the best point guard in the league, Kirilenko is a good all around player, and Brewer is up an coming. I hope the Lakers pick all three of them up. And however stingy your owner is, he’s done a pretty good job with your roster in the era post Karl Malone and John Stockton. Western Conference Finals last year and Western Conference Semi Finals this year. You guys have alot to look forward to, but I’m also saying that the Lakers have something to look forward too as well. Good day. =)
I never said that those were great players cobykarlrules and Collins doesn’t play, I just know the kind of players the Jazz like (Greg Ostertag is the same as those two) and what they can afford. Its no secret that we need a back up center that can block shots and clog up the middle, cause we gave up way to many dunks in this series. We had a 3 man rotation at the 4 and 5, we need a guy who can get 7-12 minutes a game. And you Lakers fans are all the same and thats why Utah fans hate you. By the way Memphis has your first pick and I hope Kobe tears his ACL! P.S. D-will will carry this team to a championship, so they better give him a HUGE extension this summer.
cobykarlrules!!! Thanks for keeping it real, I’ve seen a lot of BS fly through these forums, your talk is legit. Keep it coming. Go Jazz!
I agree that the season stopped way too soon! But the season is behind us and I see no reason to call any names now. What is done is done and I am already excited about next year. It was GREAT to hear that this blog site will still be here. I thought I would have horrible withdrawals from not hearing from the neat people I have met through the blogs(even tho Ernest disagrees with me most of the time). I was proud of the Jazz this year and the maturing that the young players did. I am also proud of the owner and the way the organization has kept hold of the money enough so that we have enough available to offer the great players the rate increase it takes to keep them. When things don’t turn out exactly like we want them to, we find it easy to put blame on someone. I think we can put trust in O’Conner and Sloan. After all, they picked D-Will and Korver. I think Korver has come a long way this year and will continue to get better. Hope to hear from everyone all summer.
Well, the only thing I’ve got to say on Utah’s summer outlook is… it doesn’t look great. Sure, the Jazz got some draft picks, but none are high lottery picks (but then again, neither were Tony Parker or Manu Ginobli, just to name two notable exceptions). As for the Free Agency market, well, the Jazz don’t have much room to spare. They have thirteen (or was it fourteen) players under contract for next seen, with Ronnie Price being the only restricted free agent. So there’s no room on the roster. If the Jazz sign all 3 draft picks, that means atleast 2-3 players from this year’s roster is gone. But are 3 rookies going to push this roster over the top? I dunno.
Last year Utah got lucky by getting Golden State in the 2nd round, giving them an easy pathway to the Conference Finals (yes, Golden State may have upset Dallas, but outside of the Knicks in 2000, name one other 8th seed that made it past the 2nd round. They ride that emotion to pull off the big upset, but now that things have gotten real serious, the Cinderella story begins to unravel). But we were shown they weren’t better than San Antonio then (or now), and now we know that they aren’t even better than the Lakers missing atleast two key players (Bynum and Ariza) and several of their own players not playing up to par (if you’re wanting to play the Boozer-Played-Terrible Card), like Radmonovic and Farmar.
So right now, the Jazz are the 4th best team in the conference. New Orleans and Los Angeles are ONLY going to get better. San Antonio will one day, we can all hope, hit the wall and FINALLY feel the fingers of Father Time creeping down their neck. So the real question is, how are 3 rookies and a mid-level exception (at best) free agent going to push the Jazz over the top?
No, the only hope for the Jazz is to pull off a Laker-esque trade. Not a Phoenix or Dallas desperation trade, but a trade building for the future that also addresses their needs.
Who can the Jazz get? Their biggest need is shot-blocking, obviously. But I doubt Denver is ready to part with Marcus Camby, especially to their primary divisional rival. But I do hear that the Knicks are ready to finally blow up their sad-sack roster. Maybe Zach Randolph is available for cheap.
Honestly, I just don’t see how Utah can improve. There justdoesn’t seem to be what they need out there at a price that won’t hurt them in other areas too severely.
Well the Jazz definitely had a good run. Its hard with all the success of the Jazz the last couple seasons to really take a step back and realize how young they are and to be patient.. but I like winning so the patient thing is out the window.
The Jazz are way talented and have a bright future.. even a championship honestly. They just need one piece to the puzzle.. a solid 4. Booz is a cancer to our team and there is no way we win a championship with him. Yeah he might be pretty good around the basket and can finish with his left and rebound.. etc.. but he can’t play defense! He can’t take anyone on solo and his help defense is horrible. If he’d be aggressive on the D and use his 260 lb body on the offense side and play with heart.. I’d give him a second chance.. but thats never going to happen. We’re “soft” on D cause of him. Good teams exploited that and thats why we were so bad on the road and never got up to our playing level during the playoffs.
Get rid of our picks.. use those to trade for a better post man. Plus trading away Booz would free up a lot of cap space and we can take care of the young nucleus that we have. Two names come to mind… Antawn Jamison and Lamarcus Aldridge. Jamison is aggressive and averages a double-double. Aldridge is young and the new wave of athletes with length and ability. Could also be a shot blocker that everyone else wants at 6′11″.
We don’t need any rookies or guys past their prime as some have mentioned in this blog site. Need to free up space to sign our guys for a long time and get rid of those guys that play with no heart and show up for a check. Plus think of this lineup.. D-will, Brewer, AK, Aldridge/Jamison, Okur.. with Millsap, Harp, CJ, Price, Korver, Fez, and Almond on the bench. Heck, even let Millsap start.
I think ya’ll are trippin’ if you say we are not a championship caliber team. Yes Boozer is weak defensively. But there is no way your going to trade him away given his enormous contract. Also, Aldridge is with Portland, with Oden coming back next season, there is no way in all the depths of hell they will part with this up and coming star. Jamison is the nucleus of the Wizards team. You think they would get rid of him? Ya’ll need to get off the trade wagons jock, and work with what you got. Get a defensive coordinator and play ball. Peace!
The Utah Jazz had a great year. We wanted it all and it didnt happen. Next year we can do it!
Get a defensive coordinator??!?! We playing football now?? Sloan is known for his defensive mentality and tough love attitude. The problem is that if one guy.. one out of the five.. doesn’t give an effort to play defense then the whole team suffers. There is leverage in trading Booz. He has that enormous overpaid contract.. but he has been an “all-star” the last two years and is a good post player. So maybe aldridge and jamison are far fetched.. but the idea is to find someone who wants to win and can play both sides of the ball. Odom shouldn’t be going off for almost 25 a game while Booz gets around maybe 15. Dwill is the leader and the all star on the team. Everyone can get to that level and thats why our team is amazing.. minus boozer the loser. Signs a big contract.. hardly plays the first two years he’s here and then the past two he’s been soft and weak against big, athletic 4s. Ya can debate about Booz with me all ya want.. but watch the tapes. So I’m a hater. Go Millsap!
joe, justalars and thousands of fans like me know how bad Boozer is, you know now why he was on the bench in Ohio. And don’t come with this double doubles excuse, any guy with his size and position and playing with such a good guard like Williams would get double double, can you imagine a Stoudamire, Duncan, even Chandler instead of Boozer? even Millsap would be way better.
What a about Jerry Sloan?!? Camon now 20 years coaching the same team!? it’s not something to be proud of, especially if you were never named coach of the year and doesn’t have any ring, EVEN if YOU LIKE HIM, ADMIT IT THAT’S WAY TO LOOOONG! . Most of coaches in the league know the way sloan thinks and the same moves and plays he always does.
We should be glad we even make to the playoffs but that’s it, don’t expect anything else if things don’t change, getting rid of Boozer and Sloan’s retirement would be a championship start.
Jazzismylife……..Boy do I disagree!!! My husband coached football for over 20 years running the same plays with one new on every once in awhile. Every team in our district knew exactly what we were going to play. But you know what??We were the team to beat every year. Everyone knew what we were going to do every year and every game. The thing is that what we did, we did better than any one else could do it or defend it. The players believed in what they did and worked harder to do it. Look at the Franchises……The ones who have done better are the ones with the longest term coaches. How long has the Lakers coach been there? He was fired once and they did lousy so they hired him back. Consistency works better than fancy new plays. When the whole group who coached with my husband they hired one who put in a lot of fancy throwing plays and the fans were thrilled for about 8 games. Suddenly the team went to the bottom of the district. They have done about 50-50 but never to the point they did befor. Not bragging on my husband but bragging for consistency and hard nose coaching.
Linda you have the right to disagree…but evolution is our nature, if you gonna live the present like you did 20 years ago then too bad for you, you need to adjust to new things and I’m not just talking about baskteball or sports, but life in general. It seems like your husband did well and like you said it was the team to beat, it’s not Sloan’s case.
How long has the lakers coach been there? Phil Jackson won 3 titles when he first got in LA, so did Popovic with the Spurs, Larry Brown-Pistons, Pat Riley-Heat, even Avery Johnson made to the final and was named coach of the year and he was fired, oh boy this can go on and on and this is just recently, and they did that by coaching the team for 1-3 years…Ah Mike Dantoni was not doing bad at all but guess what the Suns want a change.
If you disagree that’s good, but then don’t expect anything different next year other than what we’ve seen in the past 20 years.
Whats wrong with the same thing?? Especially if it works!?!? Sloan isn’t the problem.. he’s given complete control of the team to Dwill. It might be the same plays.. but they have a twist. So Sloan is changing and mending his style into “new school” play. I mean.. if you know what the other team is going to do then shouldn’t ya always beat them??? The jazz were tops in FG% in the league! Our problem is defense.. and having everyone on the floor playing for the name on the front.. not the back. So don’t dog on Sloan. Dwill MVP next year!
Jazzismylife…….You’re right about all those coaches but it sounds like we are saying the same thing. They were there for just a few years or a year and no one was satisfied so they changed and are usually still not satisfied. Give a coach a chance to build a program. A coach can only teach and hope the players use what they have learned on the floor. To disagree is fine but Joe, I loved your blog and agree with it. Thanks for letting me have my say.
Who is Coby Karl anyway. Never heard of him, Jaycee Carroll owns Coby Karl
By the way Chad Ford has the Jazz selecting Roy Hibbert in the first round. So I guess I’m not that Dumb! I just watched video of him, he’s not as bad as you like to think cobykarlrules, kinda reminds me of Dikembe Mutumbo (just a little)
