‘Boozer: Making A Comeback?’ (Melissa Majchrzak – NBAE/Getty Images)
Since the end of the Jazz season we have had the following discussions on 1320, K-Fan’s Locked on Sports. What is your take?
Disscussion #1 – Will Boozer bounce back?
To me the #1 issue of the off-season is will Carlos Boozer bounce back from a disappointing playoff. This is his first on the floor failure of his career and how players deal with failure defines their career. In Seattle, I saw first hand when Vin Baker crumpled under the pressure and never returned to form. How will Boozer react, will he wilt or will he work?
Discussion #2 – Can you define the season a success without knowing the future?
There is no doubt that progress has been made. However, most of what I have read about calling the season a success is based on the future success of the franchise. It seems promising, but without knowing the future can you call this a success? The Phoenix Suns fans called seasons a success that in retrospect now they wish they had more.
Discussion #3 – What about change for change sake?
There is an on-going call from a small minority of listeners for the Jazz to make a change for change sake at the head coaching position. The idea is absurd and looking through the history of the NBA it has been a disaster everytime some has tried it.
Discussion #4 – Ronnie Brewer and his future?
Ronnie Brewer has me flummoxed. He improved greatly. He finishes around the hoop better than any non superstar young player I have seen. He moves terrifically without the ball. He peaks out on my numbers systems. He has the ability to defend, though I am not convinced he is a good defender.
At the same time, he is not a good shooter. The Lakers and the Rockets both left him unguarded during the playoffs. His inability to consistently knock down the outside shot clogged the floor for the rest of the Jazz offense.
Can he be the shooting guard of the future? How do you balance both Brewer and Korver? Considering how he improved last year what can we anticipate this off-season?
Discussion #5 – Should the Jazz follow the Colts and the Seahawks?
In the NFL, both the Colts and the Seahawks have named the successor to their current head coach. The timetable is undefined in Indy, but in Seattle it will take place in a year.
With the Jazz assistant coaches under high demand, both Tyrone Corbin and Jeff Hornacek are interviewing for the Phoenix and Chicago jobs, should the Jazz name a successor to Jerry Sloan.
That is what we have been discussing over the past week.

way to steal Gordon Monson’s words about Carlos going to Miami, and didn’t even give him credit, thats called plagerism!

It certainly gives us (the fans) a lot to talk about during the summer but there is a lot of basketball that goes on behind the scenes that we don’t know about. I have been wondering if anyone has actually heard Boozer say that his child does better at lower altitudes? It was my understanding that his family had moved to Salt Lake during this season. Rather than worry about replacing Sloan, I believe they had better worry more about possibity of having to replace Corbin or Hornack. I am not “in” it enough to agree or disagree about the possible players you are mentioning but you can bet that O”Conner has been looking over things all year and has complete notes on what he thinks should happen. I would HATE it if we didn’t have Sloan (I understand that he has already signed for next year) but no matter what happens I love the Jazz and will for a long time.

why most people blaming boozer he did what he could to help his team jazz need more quality bench players and kirilenko should be on bench not a starter

i believe the jazz have a good nuculeus of players for a very long time and to all you idiots that think we should trade okur might i say your crazy he is a rare commodity in the NBA a big man that can shoot the three and draws a defense when he drives the lane i can only think of one other and he plays for dallas, as for AK he might not be the type of player he was when he was an all star but he brings lots of energy and fills the stats sheet he can defend, block shots, steal, and last season he shot over 50% from the floor he is a player that the jazz rely on alot rather everyone believes it or not, as for boozer bouncing back you can count on it he is a star in the NBA and he as the work ethic and patience to do so, in case you all forgot he left cleveland playing with LeBron to come to Utah he wants to be here and i would think that he plans on playing here for the rest of his career, he already said that this is where he wants to be and that this is a great place to raise a family as for miami i dont think they have a chance boozer will stay and the JAZZ will be a contender for years to come
GO JAZZ !!!!!!!!!

I honestly could not DISAGREE more with what you consider to be “hot topics”. Those are absolutely NOT hot topics.
Discussion #1 Will Boozer bounce back?
The issue is not whether Boozer is going to bounce back or not. The far more important issue is what is going through his head concerning his option at the end of next season to opt out of his contract. With a home in Miami, and a child whos medical condition is aggravated by altitude…the Heat are apparently making him a target at the end of next season.
I will give you that Carlos needs to come back with a vengence. Everyone is talking about how Carlos had a terrible post-season…but did anyone but me notice that Carlos’ numbers started to decline when D-will started to get MVP chants at the charity stripe?? I think much more important than whether he bounces back is management knowing what Carlos feels about his contract option at the end of next season.
Discussion #2 Can you define the season a success without knowing the future?
YES!!! You can!!! Let me know the next time you meet someone that knows what is going to happen in the future. The Jazz had a successful season according to the plans they have. You cant predict the future.
Discussion #3 What about a change for change sake?
This is rather un-important…because it wont happen. The Jazz getting rid of Sloan any sooner than he wants to go would be awful. Any coach that can go to the playoffs as many times as Sloan has with the players hes had is rather remarkable.
Discussion #4 Ronnie Brewer and his future?
This is just simply not a hot topic!! Of MUCH more importance is ANDREI KIRILENKO and the max contract that he has. Deron Williams is going to want and deserve a max contract coming up and without making a move with AK…there will simply not be any cap space for him. The Jazz made a huge mistake on Kirilenko. They need to count their losses and trade him away…almost regardless of the value they get for him.
Also more important then Ronnie Brewer are the way that Mehmet Okur and Kyle Korver do not fit into the Jerry Sloan Philosophy of basketball. Gordon Monsen in the Trib talked about this. The Jazz need a low post presence past Carlos Boozer. They need a prototypical five man that gets them 15 points and 15 boards a game. With Williams looking so AMAZING…the Jazz just dont have time for a Roy Hibbert or any other draft pick to develop for them. They need to package Andrei, maybe Memo, Collins, Hart, and some change and go get themselves a five man.
Ronnie Brewer is a second year guard that is developing amazingly well. Chill out.
Discussion #5 Should the Jazz follow the Colts and the Seahawks??
Lets worry about winning a title. We will cross that bridge when we come to it.
