Ohio State coach Thad Matta joined me to talk about new Jazz center Kosta Koufos. Matta said his former player has the desire to develop into a solid player. He talks about Koufos’s rebounding, shooting, passing, defense, and ability to run. Matta is obviously a big fan of his player but the interview gives you some incite on what Koufos did at Ohio State and what type of player he may become.

While not having seen this guy, I think the Jazz made a good pick. Anytime you can get a guy who was even mentioned as a possible lottery pick…in the 23rd round, no less…you grab him and don’t look back.

The downside is that 22 times clubs passed over him, which is cause for concern.

Bottom line…I think the Jazz took the best player still available. If the club will not put too much pressure on him and allow him to develop in the league, I believe he will prove to be a valuable addition. Coach Sloan is PERFECT for this guy’s future!

I didn’t know there were 23 rounds in the draft? Anyway, for this kid to be good, he needs to play. I think Fetz would have been awesome, but the Jazz keep him in the lame D-League. He needs to play. Get rid of Jarron Collins and let Fetz play!! Let him get experience. If this Koufos kid comes in and spends 90% of his first year in the D-League like Almond did, that will suck for everyone. Let’s get rid of Collins and his salary. Let’s get rid of CJ miles and let Almond step up in his place. And let’s let Koufos play backup to Memo! If he’s going to gain experience, the quickest way is to let him play in the NBA not the D-League. D-League is simply just a weak NCAA. Koufos will be a waste of talent if he spends all this upcoming year playing for the Flash. Which sadly, I can easily see him doing.

JEFFREY I AGREE WITH A LOT OF YOUR COMMENTS,SHOP COLLINS,HART,MILES AND GIVE THESE YOUNG GUYS A CHANCE TO PROVE THEIR METTLE,FES DID SOME GOOD THINGS IN THE SHORT 6 GAMES OR SO WITH THE JAZZ,AND ALMOND OBVIOUSLY IS A CAPABLE SCORER

Ron- thank you. I will take that ’somewhat of a compliment’ and put it in my ’somewhat of a compliment’ folder.

But I just think this guy will be like an Ostertag with better hands. A young Ostertag with better hands. And kinda better looking. So a young, kinda better looking Ostertag with better hands. Oh, and he shoots over crappy college defense alright. So…..a young, kinda better looking Ostertag that shoots over crappy college defense just alright!

Who votes that this guy will be traded or waived before his 2nd year of a bleak career? I do. I hope not, but I can just see it happen. If I was this guy or Almond, or even Fes, I would be pissed at O’Conner. Especially a future All-Star like Almond. He would be starting on more then half the teams in the league if he wasn’t on the Jazz. I mean, I love the guy and want him to stay on the team, but it’s a sad waste of talent. Can you say, “trade please!?”
