RMR Players to Watch

With the 2008 Rocky Mountain Revue gearing up this Friday, I thought I should take some time to mention a few players from each team that may catch your eye, and the RMR MVP trophy.

Utah:
Morris Almond SG 6-6:
after dropping some big games in the NBDL, this could be his real coming out party; if he lights it up does he get a seat on the Jazz bench? (can we put a veteran on the Flash?…)
Kyrylo Fesenko C 7-1: He will be battling to show how much he’s matured from last year, I think he’ll be back in a Flash uniform for 85% of the season, but hopefully he shows some D.
Kosta Koufos C 7-1: Should Kosta upstage Fesenko, as well as outplay opponents he too could end up on the Jazz bench.
Ricky Paulding SG 6-5: an interesting prospect that has been playing in Europe since he left Missouri about 3 years ago. Paulding has a deadly outside shot and may linger on the Jazz roster till September.

Spurs:
James Gist F 6-9:
a low post banger from Maryland. James had the body at the University level, but can he translate his game to the NBA (16 ppg / 8 rpg / 2.3 bpg)?
George Hill G 6-2: George had 21.5 ppg / 4.8 apg and shot 45% from beyond the arc. He’s fast and can play the point. Does he take some of the “Revue’rs” to task?
Ian Mahinmi F/C 6-11: The young Frenchman averaged 17 ppg / 8.2 rpg / 1.8 bpg and shot 61% from the field in the NBDL last year; he could be on the Spur’s bench during the regular season.
Anthony Tolliver F 6-8 *: Is it a mistake - or is he one of two players that are playing for TWO different teams at the Revue? (see below as well). If it’s not an error, he has the desire, and that is key.

NETS:
Marcus Slaughter F 6-9 *: From San Diego State he averaged 16 ppg and 11.5 rpg last year in the MWC. Is it a mistake - or is he one of two players that are playing for TWO different teams at the Revue?
Jaycee Carroll G 6-2: Jaycee has looked pretty good thus far this summer. In some of the action I saw in Orlando’s Summer League he made himself a place on this squad for the time being.
Brook Lopez C 7-0: Brook has been a monster. He and the Nets could roll the RMR this year. A must see!
Chris Douglas-Roberts G 6-7: What can I say - I’ve been infatuated with CDR since March Madness. He has been having a highly productive Summer. He could put Jaycee out of an NBA job - while making people whom passed him up look the part of a fool.
Anthony Tolliver F 6-8 *: Is it a mistake - or is he one of two players that are playing for TWO different teams at the Revue? (see below as well). If it’s not an error, he has the desire, and that is key.

Warriors:
Brandan Wright F 6-10:
Is this the year the Brandan hits the hardwood? The Warriors have lightened their roster load, now he just has Anthony Randolph to worry about.
Anthony Randolph F 6-10: Boy did he hit the floor running. Look out, the Warriors may not be in as much trouble this season as many may anticipate.
DeMarcus Nelson G 6-4: A Dukey shooting guard who’s promising Junior year didn’t produce the Senior year many anticipated. Can a duke SG stick in the league?
Richard Hendrix F 6-9: Will he even make it onto the court? Will his next playing experience be in Europe? Should he have stayed at Alabama for another year?

Dallas:
Marcus Slaughter F 6-9 *: From San Diego State he averaged 16 ppg and 11.5 rpg last year in the MWC. Is it a mistake - or is he one of two players that are playing for TWO different teams at the Revue?
Reyshawn Terry F 6-8: Drafted by Orlando, picked up by Dallas, he played in Europe last year after having a successful North Carolina career. He averaged 6.3 ppg in Greece last year.
Shan Foster G 6-6: He averaged 20 ppg 5 rpg while shooting 53% from the field and 47% from downtown. A nice draft pick, we’ll see how he does.

Atlanta:
Acie Law IV G 6-3: Although already cemented as the guard of the future, Acie will be player to watch; can you say M-V-P? Well neither can I, but he will be pushing Atlanta for supremacy of the Revue.
Wayne Simien F 6-9: Can this Kansas great break into the Hawks bench rotation? Possibly. He needs to develop his mid range game to play in the NBA.

I’m excited to see Fess and Koufos on the court together. Hopefully the coaches will try it out. I think Almond will dominate meaning CJ will be gone(to detroit) cause I doubt the Jazz will match much more than they already offered. If he was playing in the Revue it would only help his stock to play well. Not playing just bugs Sloan, if he were smart and wanted PT he would play in the revue.

    I HEAR THAT!

CJ really blew it last year by not playing in the RMR. Millsap, and Brewer proved their stock last year while CJ played Super Nintendo.

By the way Jaycee Carroll isn’t playing for the Nets anymore. He’s now with Toronto in Vegas.

Ya; i noticed that Jaycee was on the Raptors roster the other day; he is actually listed on their roster twice - and he is still on the Nets summer league roster.

summer leagues make it hard to keep track of the fringe players i’m finding out.

we’ll see if the raptors made the mistake, or if the nets haven’t updated - it looks like he played a lot better on the nets squad in orlando than he is in las vegas.

another edit: marcus slaughter was dropped from the Dallas Summer League Roster.

Jaycee Carroll is still on the New Jersey Roster as per an update I received today; Marcus Slaughter doesn’t look to be visiting the RMR - Anthony Tolliver will only be playing on the Spurs and therefore could remain an unknown.
