3-Games I Wanna See!

 ‘Oden Scheduled to School?’
‘Oden: Scheduled to School?’

With the NBA’s official release of the 2008-09 schedule, there are a few games that have really wet my whistle. Let me take a moment to step out of the Homer-Jazz-Box and toss some games out there that aren’t all Jazz oriented, but rather, Basketball related.

For one, I can’t wait to finally see “Old-Man” Oden play on opening night October 28th versus the LA Lakers: this game will show us what two different new big men are made of. That’s right I’m talking about Oden vs. Bynum. My money is on Bynum because of his experience, but I have this funny feeling that Oden will own him defensively with the Blazers winning it in the end 98-93.

Secondly; Utah vs. New Orleans -Ok I admit I said I would step out of the Jazz box, but gimme a break! This rivalry could heat up after the Olympics are over and everyone starts comparing their stats from the China games! I just can’t believe we have to wait clear ’till January 7th to see the game that features the BEST two point guards in the NBA, I hate waiting, but I guess we’ll have a lot to talk about in the lead in to this game won’t we?

Finally I want to take a step back, a step back to Xmas, and not just one game on Xmas either. Apparently the NBA has scheduled a quintuple-header (5 games on xmas) for the Xmas break, yes, FIVE games on Xmas day! While this isn’t “one game” to pay attention to, but rather FIVE, isn’t it worth noting on your blackberry?

During the Xmas morning there is nothing I like to do better than watch sports after all the melee has finally succumbed to a silent roar. Just me, my coffee, and the remote control. Of course I’ll be flipping from the annual blue-gray game to fill in my lust for football, but I can bet the house that I’ll be completely ensconced by the games they have on tap for that day:

New Orleans at Orlando, Spurs at Suns, Celtics-at-Lakers, Washington at Cleveland, and finally Dallas at Portland.

You got any games making you squirm in your seat?

J-Rod,
First, right on about Oden. He looks like James Worthy’s father. Has anyone actually seen that guy’s birth certificate? When he played at Ohio State he reminded me of Scott Bakula’s character in “Necessary Roughness.” I think we can attribute last year’s knee injury to the onset of rigor mortis.

Second, the one game I have circled is April 5th when the Jazz come down here to the Big Easy. Going to games in New Orleans is hilarious because you’ve got a bunch of drunk football fans pretending to know something about basketball. They boo everything.

Finally, don’t lie about Christmas. You know Helen isn’t going to let you watch all those games!

James, a man can dream can’t he? xmas is about laziness, sports, and warm drinks with alcohol in them… isn’t it? ;)

Not anymore, buddy. Now Christmas is about in-laws, out-laws, and whose house you’re going to.

I’ve got a feeling that people are really counting out Portland this year at their own peril. Here’s to hoping Fes sticks with the team this year so we have someone to pester G-Ode.

james and justalars, you are both buzzkills.

I know Deke is pushing 74, but Oden looks just as old.
At least Oden isn’t a finger waggler.

My husband and i always joke when we see Oden, he is the oldest looking rookie (2nd year rookie now) we have ever seen. I think Bynum is one of the most overrated big man in the league. He had one good month but since he is on the Lakers he is annoited the next Kareem. How tired I was of hearing if only the Lakers had Bynum blah blah blah. Portland seems to do well against the Lakers so I will go with Portland on this one especially since it’s so early in the season and isn’t Kobe having surgery on this pinkie at the end of the Olympics?
I can’t wait for the Jazz Hornets game. We almost always kill the Hornets and it is so fun to watch Deron abuse them.

Lovey (I mean, Jared). As your loving wife, I have to say, james and justalars are correct Christmas is not about sports it’s about family togetherness. :-)

Love,
