DREAM TEAM 2012: are you scared?
Posted by Jared Conger on August 21, 2008
Looking forward to the next Olympiad to be held in London during the Summer of 2012, I can’t help but wonder – should we be afraid or will that team hold its own?
I guess some of the questions that are yet to be answered will include
- How much better will the world get?
- Who will return from this years team?
- Who will be the new faces be?
If you believe in mathematical ratios and graphs, then you should believe in the fact that the world is catching up to USA Basketball standards. Were the past 6 years be remembered by the complacency at which the US played in all things international basketball, or that we were beat at our own game?
I tend to believe we were beaten at our own game, and watch out because the world is coming for us everywhere we look; heck even Iran has a player that is trying to make a splash in the NBA.
Will Deron Williams be back in 2012? I can tell you I hope that Jason Kidd is long gone by then, he has done nothing but take up a roster spot that could have included another big man, or even a younger player that is on the “junior” team – someone like Kevin Durant. Carmelo has stated he would like to be back, which would make him one of the “veteran leaders” but does he have a leadership quality in his blood – and I mean, a positive leadership quality in his blood? Doubtful.
In 2012 I can see the following players being around the squad:
Deron Williams – G
Chris Paul – G
Derek Rose* – G
Brandon Roy* – G
Lebron James – F
Al Thornton* – F
Kevin Durant* – F
Michael Beasely* – F
Al Horford* – F
Dwight Howard – C
Greg Oden* – C
and the 12th man will be….
Adam Morrison* – F (i know i will catch flack for this one…)
Now, keep in mind some factors that will determine what kind of team we have will include:
-what the rest of the world is doing (small ball, big bruisers, euro-ball, etc)
-injury status
-new players drafted that we haven’t even heard of yet
Am I afraid of 2012? A little, but I hope I have a flying car by then too. *
*-blame the Jetsons for setting the “future living” bar too high…

he was hurt last year during preseason games after having a great showing, and improving over the end of the season.
he will be singing LL Cool J all year “don’t call it a comeback! I’ve been doing this for years!”
either that or Jerry Colangelo is an idiot.
but probably the first part of this thought.
plus anyone with a moustache is a gamer.

The next AI! Andre “don’t call me Iggy” Iguodala!
He is such a slasher, I’d rather not have him on the team until he fully develops an 18+ foot jumpshot.
although I resepect and fear him when he’s on the court against us…

That is a pretty good list man, as i believe you have highlighted the future ALL-STARS of the NBA!
However i agree with names in previous comments, Iggy man ALL THE WAY…. he will be a 2012 version ofthe 2008 Kobe!
TIm Duncan and Amare should have been selected instead of some of the guys in this years squad!
And let us not forget about those that showed us that there only could only be one this season; i’m talking about how USA’s coach’s forgot about the DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR and the FINALS MVP, and the cause for the east WINNING ALL-STAR weekend; KG, Paul Pierce, and Ray Ray….. where the hell was their credit to be selected ! ! !
ALso let me take you back to the second dream team (excuse me if i’m incorrect on this one) Hakeem, Robinson and Shaq all in the one team….. BUT no you cant have an elite force of Tim AMare and SUperman,..,.. could u imagination how that line up would have been !
ADAM…. thatz the funniest thing i have ever heard, he is NBA average, but nufn to parade on the world stage !
THatz enough out of mi for one day!
Peace Out

Don’t forget, Shaq, Robinson, and Hakeem were accompanied by two amazing power forwards named Charles Barkley and Karl Malone. The U.S. has never had a stronger set of big men.
Compare these five to the Dwight Howard, Carlos Boozer, and Chris Bosh trio.
No comparison.

So is Morrison going to have a break out season before them or is Jerry Colangelo just an idiot. I hope the first is correct. What is your reasoning for Adam Morrison? Cause he cant even get time on a crappy NBA team (Charlotte Bobcats) let alone a team with Allstars on it.Plus I think they’re may be a couple draft picks between now and then that could have a shot too.
