Mueller Update, Odds and Ends

A few of you . . . okay, okay, maybe a VERY few of you (thanks Mom & Dad), may have been wondering if the Mueller family has dropped off the planet. My answer to that is that we are rarely completely grounded at any one time anyway.

We have spent the summer traveling, having company, reading “Breaking Dawn” by Stephenie Meyer, and, of course, girls sports, more girls sports and finally, more girls sports. We had some fun “Jazzbots” moments when my girls wore their offical “Jazzbots” hats and/or shirts. Kara (9 year old) had someone ask her if she worked for the Jazz. She couldn’t have been any prouder as she stood up straight and tall to announce to anyone within earshot that she did work for the Jazz. The poor worker at Dairy Queen in West Yellowstone had to hear all about it!

The Olympics are one of many ‘coveted’ sporting events at our house. We watched as much as we could and re-watched our favorite parts. One thing you can say about the Olympics is that they are inspiring. Brooke, (14 yr. old ALMOST 15, uugghh), watched Phelps pull off his fingertip victory. In an interview later, Phelps said that his motivation was that he just didn’t like to lose. So, a few days later during volleyball tryouts (yes, she is a freshman now), she was running for her skills tests and a teammate came whizzing by her. She said that the only thing that went through her mind was “Oh, no you don’t” and speed came from nowhere to help her finish with a better time. Running WAS her least favorite part of conditioning, she even liked running STAIRS better than running the track, but after seeing a more competitive side to running she is loving it more every day. See what I mean about the Olympics being inspiring?

We loved watching the Dream Team although, watching the refereeing of the games was something to behold. That’s all I’m going to say about that. As for myself, I spent most of the Olympics crying over the special interest stories. Anyone who has read our blog before should know what a sap I am.

A ‘never before revealed fact’ about myself is that I am, in my professional life, a school counselor at an intermediate school of sixth and seventh graders. I haven’t revealed this fact before because I was afraid it may bring my sanity into question. But, by now, most of you have already made the decision on my sanity. Just keep your opinions to yourselves :-). Anyway, with school back in session, my life falls into a more regimented cycle and we as a family operate on a more structured schedule.

So, what I am babbling on about is that the Muellers are back and ready to roll with the new Jazz season. We will hear more from the girls and more from Dad than we have in the past. We are excited for ANOTHER great Jazz season. The new changes in the line-up will only strengthen an already great team. And, we are hoping to silence, if only for a moment, the Jazz critics out there who continue to think that everytime the Jazz make the playoffs it is based only on luck. Boy, we are one LUCKY team. October is just barely around the corner and nothing says basketball like the cool autumn wind, fall leaves swirling in the sky and the smell of fresh-baked apple pie, yummmmmm. The Jazz play Denver in the Season opener on October 29th. Only two more months! Be ready!

So glad to see the Muellers back!! Just have to mention that anyone that does any counseling has something special in what they are made of. My oldest son is a clinical therapist in California and when he mentions a case to me once in awhile I think I would go out of my mind dealing with problems that I wasn’t sure I could cure! (Have a question on that subject in a minute) We too love the Olympics. It seemed like this year ( and maybe others that I have forgotten) almost all of the athletes were true athletes. They really wanted to win but as much or more for their country then for themselves. I too shed a few tears over some of the side stories. My only complaint is that I wasn’t too happy with the rendition of the National Anthem. Back to my question: Do the Jazz have some type of sport therapist on their staff? I have a Cousin who is a hand writing specialist for the courts of California. She is sometimes hired by coaches of different sport teams to read the players handwriting so the coach knows the best way to coach that individual. With either a strong hand or a mental approach. When my sons were on swim teams she read them to a T and she had not met them at that time. Just wondering if anyone knew if we had something in that line with the Jazz???? Welcome back…..GO JAZZ and make it soon!

Well , I have to say that even though I am just begining to read these blogs , that it will be nice to get to know ya . Welcome back .
I am sad to say that i was not able to watch much of the Olympics this year , because of all the hours that I am working at this time . But I did get to see a couple of swiming races that the USA won , that was cool and exciting .
I have been trying to keep up with news of the Olympics by reading the paper . I think that it is sad of those that lost because of miscues that will always haunt them . With all the hours of training and getting tuned for their individual events I can imagine how dissappointed they feel right now .
I just want to say thanks to them all for representing our great country and for giving their all . Good luck next time for those that will be back .
I do wish that I would have been able to watch the basketball team , mostly because I wanted to cheer on our Jazz players . I think that they are the best of the best .
Lets go get um boys , go Jazz !!!

Jared & Clint: I have to admit, we cheated on that game. For crying out loud I have to be somewhat coherent the next day! However, first thing in the am, Kurt had the game on the computer for us to watch. It did take some of the drama out of the game knowing the end result ahead of time but it was still dramatic enough with the way the game was close!

Linda, good question. I will see what I can find out about that. I would like to find that out as well. I think that I love sports because I can see so many great kids/young adults who have a lot going for them and (usually) those kids are making good choices and usually have support systems that allow them to follow their dreams. If only all kids could have that. Thanks for the warm welcome back!

JayD: WELCOME! Glad to have you with us, especially with your busy schedule. The miscues were heart breaking. So hard to imagine how I would feel if I had trained for four years and one small thing and it’s all gone (at least for this olympics). UUGGHH!
