Hello everyone, this is my first post here on Jazzbots, and I am so psyched to be able to contribute to this community.  My nom de plume is Mr. Bytheway, and you can call me Mr. Bytheway.  It will be nice to have a huge group of Jazz fans to bounce my ideas off, because my landlord is having a hard time staying interested and I want my wife to stay with me for a long long time.  Please let me know what you think of my posts, I’ll try to respond to any questions or comments.

Watching the Jazz finally play again reminded me of one of my family’s beliefs regarding the NBA: first team to 100 wins.  In almost every game I watch, the statement holds true.  That simple belief led to me annoy family and friends when I start saying sometime in the second quarter “all we have to do is score 65 before they score 71.”  Finally hitting that 100 point mark in a game is a release, as my body relaxes and thinks that we have the game in the bag.

So as I anxiously watched the end of the preseason game against the Lakers, I kept waiting for the glorious triple-digits.  It was an unimportant exhibition, in garbage time, and it looked as if a victory was assured.  But I still groaned loudly when Ronnie Brewer missed an alley-oop dunk  that would have pushed us over 100.

The Jazz rarely have trouble scoring 100, the problem is if they can keep the other team from doing so first.  Here’s to hoping for 82 games and 8200 points.  Scored before the opponents, of course.

do the tickets on preseason games still say free fries at wendy’s if we score over a 100?

or have we been doing that so regularly that they quit that promotion?

- i remember back in the day NEVER getting my free fries because we’d rarely go over 100.

It’s a popular phrase.

As soon as the Jazz hit 100, at home, we all chime in “game over” and give high fives.

Rarely are we disappointed.

When Billy Paltz was playing, a hundred years ago, he was know as the “Whopper”, and if the Jazz scored 125(?) points, you got a free Whopper at Burger King. You know what the chant was as the Jazz got close to 125 back then…

Whopper, Whopper, Whopper…

Frank Leyden though it was degrading to the hapless opponents and the free Whopper was discontinued the next year.

Welcome to the blogs. I too was cringing when the hundred points were missed when you were sure he was going to make the shot. Just getting ready to leave for Salt Lake so see you there.

Didn’t some team offer free chalupas at some point? Reading your comments is bringing back memories that could be completely manufactured…

Well i want a lot of fries so common 100 points

Yeah! give Tommy his fries! just kidding.

Apparently this idea of “first to 100 wins” isn’t well known outside of Utah. How embarrassing. I believe its an essential, and the Jazz have always been all over it. I’m excited for the season to start!!

I wonder what San Antonio thinks about that?

Good post, man! I look forward to reading more.

i would wager san antonio gives out taco’s to everyone if they hit 85 pts.

Mike McKell on October 10, 2008 said:

Taco’s for 85, the whole enchilada for 100, or something like that ;)

You know that I was thinking that very same thing last season when I would watch them play those high scoring games . I have noticed that when we get there first we usually win. I am not to familiar with what is on those tickets , I have only been to one Jazz home game . It was a first rounder the year that the Jazz made it to the finals the first time . I cannot remember who it was that we were playing but I do remember that I had such a great time , even though the kid that I took with me kept cheering for the other team . I also remember that we did win that game . I hope to get another chance to see at least a first rounder this year .
Thanks for the article , I did enjoy it .

Lawler’s Law: The first team to 100 points wins the game. In games involving the Clippers since 1978, Lawler’s law has been true 91.5% of the time.

He’s a Clippers play-by-play. I’m not sure when he first use it.

There has also been the Carl’s Jr Ranchburger, probably 3,000 calories of beef, cheese, bacon and sauces for a 100 point Jazz win.

And, the most recent, a Big Mac, which you have to wait until the next day and can’t exceed the number of people in your car, regardless of the number of ticket stubs you have.

I’m pretty sure there were only 3 Jazz games in the 07-08 season where the first team to 100 rule was broken… twice in our favor. Which when it boils down, its a good feeling that goes down your spine when we hit triple digits.

I enjoy getting the free big mac the day after, however I wish they would do some kind of sponsorship with Wienerschnitzel. Just imagine, free chili dog after every victory. I would go CRAZY. That would be my biggest dream for this next season, with the sole exception of getting a title.

Mr. Bytheway,

DUDE! I had no idea you were a jazzbot! That is awesome. I miss having someone intelligent to talk to about Jazz matters at work though.

What do you think of a bench with Matt, AK, Millsap, and Korver? I think it is pure genius. Best bench in the NBA if you ask me. Any one of those guys could be starters on a lot of other teams.
