Message From the Basketball Gods?
Posted by Mallory Meyer on October 21, 2008
Wow. Wake me up from this nightmare. Okay, I know I’m being super dramatic and this could be worse, but still, this is super crappy.
To elaborate on this sucky feeling, I’m going to have to compare this predicament to yet another cheesy Hollywood moment. For all of you who have seen Little Rascals you know this well. Alfalfa is walking down the street as cheerful as ever because he is on his way to meet up with his lovely Darla. All the other He-Man Women Haters are swimming at the waterhole, and think he’s at home with a toothache. Best day of his life! Not so fast… As he rounds the corner, who else would he meet but big-time bullies Butch and Wiom. Alfalfa is dumbfounded that his perfect day could be so completely ruined and he sadly exclaims, “And then the clouds opened up and God said, ‘I hate you Alfalfa.’”
Does anyone else feel like the clouds just opened and the basketball gods uttered, “I hate you Jazz fans?” I’ve been so amped the past couple weeks thinking about the upcoming season–how Hollinger has us to come out on top in the West, how Deron seems as ready as ever to be THE leader of this team, how Hollinger predicts for both Brewer and Deron to have breakout years…. Well, not so fast Jazz fans…..
Why must the basketball gods hate us??? They gave Kobe nothing more than a little tap on the pinkie for his sins, and innocent Deron gets slapped with a two-week-MINIMUM side-lining injury! Where is the justice here?
Get well soon Deron. We’ve typically been considered a people of faith , but let’s stick it to the basketball gods and show them that we can do this on our own accord.

ahh, yes, I myself offered a prayer to the basketball gods in my previous article and it was not answered
. Hopefully Deron will only miss one or two games, but it will still be devistating to watch the eagerly anticipated opening night without him in the lineup. Time for Ronnie P to step it up a bit, and an opportunity for Brevin to be thrown into the fire faster than was anticipated.

I’m with Jared…we have nothing to fear but fear itself. We have a complete team and with Deron at the helm a really, truly, exceptional team. I want the Jazz to come out and play with that chip on their shoulder, the one that says that no one gives us a chance without Deron. He’s a key to winning it all but a few games without him could be a good chance for the other Jazz players to say…hey we are good even without Deron…he just makes us that much better. Jazz will kill Denver at home! They won’t let us down!

I know, I know. I was totally overreacting here (barring two weeks doesn’t turn into significantly more time), but I feel better now that I got it all out of my system. It will be interesting to see how the team functions without Deron for those first few games, but I have confidence they can make something happen.

Sprained ankles are unfortunately a regular part of basketball, as I was so forcefully reminded this summer. Deron will be fine, the break will probably give him some great perspective, and help him to come back even better than he would have. IMHO

I’m just wondering if Booz averages close to 30 pts. and 12 reb. and AK gets close to 18 pts. and does the other things he does while D-will is out. (could be only 1-2 games and if so this question is null and void) Will people (Jazz Fans) get off their backs about trading them? I have my doubts.

justalars: we’re finicky fans here in ooo-tah for whatever reasons. it would take karl malone like numbers out of boozer or a contract extentsion. and for AK, i have no idea what it would take; maybe he would have to walk on water to prove his worth to those who sleep under rocks…
