…It’s in the air.

‘It’s here…’
‘It’s just about here…’

I swear that I can smell the beginning of basketball season.  Some people call this the smell of autumn.  They say “fall is in the air.”  For me it’s a little bit different.

When most people think of 29.5 inch round orange objects in October, they are usually thinking of their Halloween pumpkins.  I’m thinking of the standard issue Spalding ball being tipped at the first home game.

The average person in October dreams of the season’s first taste of pumpkin pie and apple cider.  Personally, the Autumn dreams of my refined palate include the hot dogs you can get inside the Energy Solutions Arena (You know the ones I’m talking about?  The ones smothered in peppers and onions that are extremely bad for you.  They’re the ones that you get and the next thing you know everyone around you is asking, “Where did you get that,” you point the way, then pretty soon you’re surrounded by them!).

Some people can’t wait to hear the crunch of fall leaves under their feet.  As for myself, I can’t wait to hear the swish of Memo’s first money shot or Boozer’s first unintelligible grunt of the season.

The non-Jazz fanatic can’t wait to snuggle up by their fire with a nice bowl of popcorn and watch some sweet family movie.  I can’t wait to snuggle up with my popcorn and await the first terrible call from an official which will result in Jerry’s first technical foul.  It is usually at this point that I throw my bowl of popcorn at my TV set in disgust.

And while most people can’t wait for their Autumnal drive through some lovely canyon, the drive I look forward to most in October is the one after our first big win upon which my husband mortifyingly ducks in the front seat while I drive up and down South Temple honking and yelling out my window, “The Jazz are number 1!”

Yes, Utah Jazz Basketball is in the air folks.  What a wonderful time of the year!

My friend’s this is probably one of the most exciting times of the year, right next to MAY/JUNE when it’s hot as hell outside and the playoffs are beginning. However this year has the chemistry that non-other than Bill Nye the science guy would be baffle at. Its life off and game on from this point forward. The smell of hard work, the feel good feelings of two gold Olympians conducting this team forward to a destination that is promising has my emotions going bonkers. My pumpkin is carved with the JAZZ logo. My Halloween costume is the BEAR, and my girl friend a UTAH JAZZ cheerleader. Ha. You gotta LOVE it baby.
