POST GAME QUOTES: 10/29/08 vs. Denver
Posted by Jared Conger on October 30, 2008
Notes: The Jazz extended the team’s season-opening game winning streak to six games (last season-opening loss was in 2002 to New Orleans) … Since moving into EnergySolutions Arena the Jazz have won 11 of the last 14 season-opening home games … Carlos Boozer led the Jazz to victory with a 25 point, 14 rebound double-double tonight as Mehmet Okur chipped in a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Jerry Sloan – Head Coach (1-0 this season)
On the game
“Well, I thought one of the things that helped us was our offensive rebounding. Some of the putbacks we got were really important and the free throws we made were a difference as well.”
On playing without Deron Williams down the stretch
“He’ll be back and he’ll certainly be the great player we know he is. We had a little bit of luck and a couple of things bounced our way. We turned the ball over a few times down the stretch which is something I didn’t think we would do. You have to give them credit because they kept coming at us and made it hard to get our offense going like we’d like to. People did a very good job and Ronnie Price had a tough assignment trying to guard Allen Iverson but he did a good job.”
Carlos Boozer – Forward (25 points, 14 rebounds)
On the game
“We had a big lead and they fought back, made some big shots. J.R. Smith started cooking a little bit and next thing we knew we were ready to execute, get stops, and make our free throws. I thought we did a good job down the stretch to get the win.”
On playing without Deron Williams
“I thought we did well. I thought guys stepped up. I thought Ronnie Price and Brevin did a great job. Those two guys stepped up and collectively they did a helluva job for us. I thought other guys came in and made big plays as well. It was a team effort. We got a big win for us.”
On Denver
“They are a good team. They fought back and they got some very good players over there. We’re going to see them again over the course of the season.”
Mehmet Okur– Center (13 points, 10 rebounds)
On the game
“It was exciting game for us, especially first game in front of our fans. It was always important game, first game, especially when you play at home. I think we fought really good and did a good job on the defensive end and helped each other. It was a fun game.”
On the team’s effort
“I thought everybody did a good job and stepped up, especially A.K. and Kyle did such a great job for us coming off the bench. It was a fun game for us.”
