We NEED Our Games…Please.

I got the following email today…

Hello,

I live two hours north of Seattle and watched every Jazz game last year on Directv’s NBA League Pass. This year all games have been “blacked out in my local area.” I am not local to Utah. I contacted the Jazz and they said they are receiving a lot of calls from the Northwest about blackouts. The Jazz say “it is not them. Its the cable service provider and to keep calling them.” Directv say’s they don’t control the blackout. Can you please tell me why I can not watch my beloved Jazz? Somebody needs to fix this problem or at least explain the to all the “out of market” Jazz fans who paid $189 for NBA league Pass (non-refundable) why they will not be able to see the Jazz games.

Concerned Jazz Fan

Well concerned Jazz Fan, while I am flattered that you think I can do anything for you, I sadly cannot. I can however commiserate with you. Heck, I live in Utah and have only been able to watch two games on KJZZ this entire season! Not only that, but I am currently between houses and have been temporarily living with my in laws who’s solution to TV is to run a cable through the back yard where my darling father-in-law has attached a large antenna to the back fence. To the powers that be… Concerned Jazz Fan and I beg for more accessible games. For the love of Jazz fans everywhere bring our team to mainstream TV! Till then I guess we get to bond with the great Hot Rod and listen to the cowhide globe hit home. ;)

Not to rub anything in anyone’s faces but this just an info posting. I have basic Directv and in my area at least FSN Utah is available on channel 684, I also have it on good authority that it is available in Comcast’s basic channel but I don’t know what channel it would be. I understand your pain though, I went through all of last season without realizing I had the power to watch the games. It was a hard year. I agree though that the games need to be more accesible to loving fans everywhere!

Folks,

More often than not, the games are here:

Comcast – Ch. 52 (6 for HD)

DirecTV – Ch. 684 (684 for HD)

DISH – Ch. 446 (446HD for HD)

If its being blacked out, its because of the NBA tv deals. Good luck with that. I’m not Denver fan but if I want to watch there game I can’t do it due to black out restrictions.

Christie, I too am a cable, satellite, dish have not. I even tried going to my Grandma’s house to watch. Turns out, since the family just got her cable so that she had some kind of reception so that she can watch KBYU, FSN is not part of her basic package. So, we ended up having a nice visit instead, and we got to watch two Little House on the Prairies in a row, I forgot how much I hated that Nellie Oleson and her Mother!

It is hard to get games sometimes. I live in Montana. My local cable company offers FSN Utah in the basic package so I get to see most games, but years where it is mostly KJZZ, I have had trouble. I bought League Pass three years ago, and they told me since Utah was my local team, I couldn’t see them. (Right…just hook up my antenna and pick up KJZZ….) IIt was eventually worked out, but it took about a month of calling and complaining.

I’m in Spokane and I also have diret TV. During the the first two weeks of the season, I was also ‘blacked out’. I called Direct TV, they said it was an NBA problem. I emailed the NBA and they responded that they’d look into it. I also called the Jazz (801-325-2500) and they told me to call Direct TV. I didn’t buy the League Pass, so other than ESPN or TNT games, I don’t see live games. Though the other day I was at a sports bar and asked if they’d pull up the Jazz game and it came up. So I thought the problem had been fixed. It’s obviously a mistake. There is now reason for the Jazz blacking out games in the Northwest. Hell, John Stockton can’t even watch the Jazz now!
