You’re Welcome, Jazz Fans

Gather round, Jazz fans and I’ll tell you a tale.

It was just over a week ago when I, Bryan Hickman, courageously took a step that few of you were ready to take.  If you remember, I put the entire team on a one-game suspension.  The Jazz had lost four straight games and had all of us feeling more than just a little disheartened.  Some of you — and I won’t name names — were already calculating lottery odds.  Yet, it was I who had the moxie and the wherewithal to come forward and say to the team “I’m not watching your game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.”

Now, I’m not one who likes to toot his own horn…but, ladies and gentlemen, it looks like my suspension – which once again, was a fearless and gumption-filled move on my part – worked.  At least for this week.

What have we seen since then?  Three wins in four games — a feat the likes of which had not been seen since…well…two weeks before the suspension.  Still, it felt like a lot longer than that, didn’t it?

I digress.  Where was I?

Three wins in four games, including what was probably the most impressive win of the season against the Mavericks.  In fact, in one of those wins, Deron Williams wasn’t even on the floor — yet the guys pulled out a 19-point victory.  That, my friends, is the kind of thing that happens when the team receives a much-needed wake-up call.

I don’t practice this tough love for accolades or even for attention.  No, I do it strictly because I love this team and want what’s best for it.  Yet, aside from a phone call from Jarron Collins — which really shouldn’t count since he calls me all the time to ask me what I think — I haven’t gotten so much as a “thank you” from anyone.

Well, I just want to say that you’re welcome…no thanks are necessary.

I, too, was ready to give up. I was dreading any road game, any home game against a quality opponent.
But something’s changed.
Deron Williams is playing his best basketball of this season, maybe his career. Matt Harpring is leading the bench. And with a boost from your “suspension”, the Jazz have become unstoppable.
Let’s hope they continue the trend tonight at Golden State. Every win is a big win.
