Bird Legs Gets the Start

I would be an ungrateful Jazz fan if I didn’t publicly thank Sheena for being the initiator of some of the best Boler and Booner commentary I’ve ever heard.  I’ll admit that at first, I was a little jealous that Sheena’s Tundra Tough Question got answered and not mine.  I don’t write in with questions often, but my mind was racing during the Kings game–Is Chris Webber a future hall of famer?  What are the chances Kyle will remain in the starting line-up when CJ returns?  And shouldn’t the Jazz perform better than average on the back end of back-to-backs seeing as they are such a young, active team?

Needless to say, I’m still looking for answers because Boler and Boone chose to remain hushed on these topics.  Instead, they felt it necessary to answer Sheena’s “Why does Kyle Korver always wear those high socks?” question. At first, I was so annoyed–seriously?  Did they really think it necessary to respond to that?

Well I’m glad they did because Booner’s response was absolutely comical.  With as much seriousness as I’ve ever heard Booner speak with, he explained that Kyle has bird legs that need to be covered up.  He then proceeded to explain that Bobby Jackson wears his high socks because he has had calf problems in the past and the high socks keep his legs warm.  Could this also be Kyle’s motive?  Nope. Or at least not according to Booner. Boone continued to rag on Korver saying how ugly Kyle’s scrawny legs are and how he really needs to cover them up.  He sounded like such an expert on the topic.  Who knew Booner has been checking out Kyle’s legs so much?

So thanks Sheena for pulling out Booner’s expertise.  Pure entertainment right there.  And while we’re talking Korver, I want to remind you that I still need my own Tundra tough question answered–really, what are the chances that Kyle will start when CJ gets over the bronchitis?

My dad and I got talking today, and after he gave me a monologue about how Home Depot is the greatest store on earth, he intelligently pointed out how Kyle’s two starts have equalled great first quarters and a lot of energy.  Also, he noted that much of the energy he brings seems to be coming on the defensive end–blocked shots, charges, and great rebounding.   Great points Dad.  I couldn’t agree more.  And now that CJ is back and got the start for one game, I hope Jerry will watch closely to see who really deserves the opportunity.  He always says that a guy won’t lose his job due to illness or injury, but remember the Hart/Price situation?  Price proved himself while Hart was out, and while Hart got the start when he first got back, that didn’t last long seeing as no one could deny that Price was superior.  I’m wondering if Korver has proven the same thing.  I’ve been saying for a long time that Korver and Brewer need to play on the floor together more often.  We’ll see if Jerry agrees.

Well, anyway, to make a long story short–I learned something through this whole Toyota Tundra tough  question experience that has changed my philosophy on it.  Maybe I don’t need Bolerjack and Booner to answer my tough questions.  I just need them to provide me with entertaining commentary, and I’ll just go to my dad for answers to my really difficult inquiries.

Thanks for the wisdom Dad,

–Mal

Oh how I wish I could have heard this! If FSN would do more Jazz games in HD maybe league pass would use Utah FSN instead of the other teams networks. I can just imagine it.

Mal,
Thanks for the answer to a mystery of mine. I came in the room just long enough to see a picture of Korver’s face and hear Booner say something about ugly. I wasn’t sure if he was talking about his face, hair or defense(not always lately). I would have never guessed his legs. Oh, and as unbelieveable as it seems to me, I won attendance at an Evening with Mr. Ugly Legs tomorrow, so let me know your burning questions for I “m sure I will be able to ask dozens of questions, NOT.
Keep up the blogs I really enjoy them. I wish I still had my Dad to answer my questions.

Your Dad is a smart man, I’m glad others have noticed it also. For an awkward white guy Korver gives it his all and is pretty decent at blocking shots. I think he does what Jerry is asking from CJ hopefully he’ll catch on.

Oh Deb, I’m glad I could help you out! And you lucky dog–I can’t believe you won! I have no questions for Kyle, but I’ll have a million for you after the event so make sure to share your experience with us!!!

justalars, Do you think I’m a smart man because I think that Home Depot is a great store or for my insights regarding Kyle Kover recent play in his two starts? Just curious.

Mal; It is good to know that you still feel you can come to me for answers to you difficult inquiries. You know how much I respect and value your insight and opinions.

I really think that Jerry should look seriously at starting Kyle Korver and bringing C.J. off the bench.

You have got to love the Booner. My memories of him go way back to when he played for the Utah Stars. He was incredible. One of my favorite Ron Boone comments is “He heard footprints”

Dad Meyer,

Because of Korver’s two starts. I think he just brings more to the table than CJ because he understands what is needed. CJ is more skilled (athletically) but thats why he struggles with things because as David Locke put it. He’s always been the best wherever he’s played so he doesn’t know what Jerry means when he says play hard. He thinks he is playing hard, but not doing the little things. And I’ll keep my feelings to myself about Home Depot and Lowe’s so as not to offend anyone. :)

Deb…..Ask Korver if he could use another grandmother. My grandkids are all either grown up or gone to far to grandmother. I grew up without ever having a grandmother so I really do a good job at it. Never can tell.

Linda,
I didn’t read your post til after I returned home from “the Evening” or I would have asked and I am sure he would have answered politely with a smile on his face. I was truely surprised how patient and pleasant Mr. Kover was. He sat at each table and answered probably hundreds of questions. Sometimes the same questions over and over again and some really stupid questions (including a couple of mine). He patiently posed for many pictures and signed whatever people brought for him to sign. I don’t think he even had time to eat dinner till it was all over. I know that public relations are a part of professional sports and he makes a lot of money for what he does, but this was way cool (a term from my generation).
Mal,
Besides Kyle, the Jazz Dancers and the PR girl from the Jazz, there were very few “pretty people” there. But we were all treated very well and respectfully. It was a wonderful evening. I did ask Kyle if he really had ugly legs and I don’t think he knew about the comment by Ron Boone because he went on to explain WHY he wears long socks.
A big thanks goes out to the Jazz PR office, America First Credit Union and Kyle Korver.

Deb…Thanks anyway. I think I should get to touch the hand he shook of yours. That had to be “an evening” to remember for a long time. Just to visit with one of the players would be absolutley wonderful, or should I say “way cool”. I’m glad you got to go. We are lleaving in 15 minutes to head for Salt Lake for t he game. I am already nervous with hives. I used to get hives before my husband’s team played an important game. I think the Jazz will give their best and that is all I ask.

Mal on February 11, 2009 said:

Thanks for sharing Deb! So what was Kyle’s explanation for the socks?

Deb on February 11, 2009 said:

Mal,
He said he was a freshman or sophomore at Creighton and not playing much, after not a great game, he and his friend decided to wear long socks to see if it helped. Appearently it did and so the long socks are still with him til this day. He also had a funny story about what happened when he found ou he was traded. here but I was at a different table and I am not sure I heard the whole story correctly so I hesitate to pass it on, but it had something to do with his mother crying.

Mal , I know what you mean about not getting your Tundra Tough ?’s answered . I sent one in one night also , and they never even answered anyones that I noticed , I was a little upset to say the least . If I could text it I would have , but I dont get texting minutes , mostly because I would rather talk than text .
Deb , that is so cool that you got to meet KK in person . I would love to meet anyone of our boys. But I would love to meet some of the old school players even more .
That was a good blog .
