The Ronnie Brewer Explosion
Posted by Johnathan Kendrick on March 02, 2009

February started out D-Willy Style with the spotlight heavy on the Jazz ‘All-Star caliber’ point guard. The last eight games has seen the spotlight expand to include the other half of the Jazz starting backcourt. Ronnie Brewer has had good games before but never in a sustained stretch like this. What he has done over the last 8 games is not just entertaining, it’s not just elevating his game, it’s re-writing scouting reports and making the Jazz a very dangerous team.
When the fourth option on your team is averaging 20 points a night on 58% shooting – you have a deep starting five and you are going to force opposing teams to guard everyone or pay the consequence. It’s going to make it a whole lot easier to ease Boozer back in the groove when opposing teams can’t afford to double team him. Brewer hasn’t just stepped it up on the offensive end of the court, his defensive hustle and energy have also taken a huge step forward. Even with Kyle Korver playing the best basketball he has played all year – it’s become very hard for the coaching staff to take Brewer off the court (Just ask CJ Miles).
Breaking it down:
First 51 games – Last 8 games
Points 13.3 19.1
FG% 49.3% 58.3%
Reb 3.5 5.1
Blocks .27 1.38
Steals 1.5 2.38
The best part is that in all estimation Brewer still hasn’t hit his peak. If Brewer can improve from the free throw line and finish stronger around the hoop he could raise his scoring average and his shooting percentage a few points. That leaves room for quick improvement.
Brewer recorded his career high of 26 points last Saturday night. He followed it up without missing a beat on Sunday night in a rare Jazz road win. Right now it looks like nothing is slowing Brewer down. Sit back and enjoy the explosive show.

Oh goodness. I love this guy and boy has he been performing! I am so glad to see him in the game in the fourth quarter. We need his energy out there, and he really has elevated his game. I love you Ronnie! Keep it up!

I have liked Brewer from the moment he first put on a Jazz uniform. His recent surge of excellent basketball has been awesome to watch!
The point in the article that mentions how teams will be less able to double-team Boozer is going to help us a ton, especially in the play-offs. Remember last year against the Lakers? Kobe was able to hang around the paint because he didn’t see Brewer as a threat.
I loved when we beat the Lakers a few weeks ago. Brewer’s first shot of the game was a 3-pointer, which he nailed. Kobe was hanging in the paint again, allowing Brewer to have the open shot. Brewer made it clear that Kobe would have to guard him!
GO JAZZ!

He’s the most entertaining player on the Jazz by far, I’m glad to see him improving. Aside from a dwill crossover, there is nothing more exciting than a Ronnie Brewer steal or dunk. It’s best when he combines the two by stealing the ball, and running the length of the floor, finsishing the play with a high flying dunk.

Watching Ronnie play ball is exciting. He brings energy and enthusiasm to the court.
There are 2 major reasons he is doing better statistically right now. First and foremost is the number of minutes he is playing certainly helps his overall stats raise up (except the FG %, that’s from the other reason).
Reason 2, he is slashing to the basket once again rather than popping up quick jumpers like he was earlier in the season. Glad to see him back to what made him look so good last year.
Go Ronnie!

His better long jumpers give him a lot more room to attack the rim.
If the Jazz is not an under-rated team, Brewer should be the top 5 front runner for the Most Improved Player Award.

His willingness to shoot the jumpers makes people guard him closer, allowing those back cuts.
He gets my vote, but seeing him every night probably biases my judgment.

He’s playing out his MIND right now and I love it. He is one of the most explosive players I have ever seen and agree that he hasn’t reached his full potential. I want to see Ronnie in the dunk contest and see what he can do when he doesn’t have to worry about dribbling or defenders.
