Some Chris Bosh Man Love
Posted by Brian McCann on May 14, 2009

By now it should be no secret among all of you that I have a huge man-crush on Chris Bosh (chill guys chill…I’m a married man…this is strictly a basketball crush). Bosh is a machine-a younger Kevin Garnett, with great feet, and a sweet touch. He has quickly made a name for himself over the last few seasons as one of the premier post players in the NBA. Last season he averaged 22.7 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 1.0 bpg, and .9 spg. The man is legitimately the real deal. He plays with the intense kind of passion that commands respect and usually yields great results.
So why have I been hammering the Chris Bosh nail on the head so hard over the last couple of months? Because he is a perfect fit for Utah, and I want to see him in a Jazz uni.
Now hold up with all of the “there is no way Toronto would let him go” and “he can walk away from his contract next summer, so it wouldn’t be worth it” talk. Let me explain myself before you jump to conclusions.
The Raptors love Bosh. They understand his value to the franchise, and Brian Colangelo would love nothing more than to sign Chris to a five year extension this summer. The problem is he wont, and he knows it. If Bosh were to sign an extension with the Raptors, he would stand to lose two years of guaranteed money (the length of time left on his current contract). In essence, he would give up those two years in lieu of the new five year deal, which wouldn’t make sense. Chris is only 25 after all, and waiting until the summer of 2010 to opt-out and then sign a max-money deal would be a smarter move. If he really wanted to maximize his wealth, he would negotiate a max-money three year extension with the Raptors now, which would put him at 28 years old when his deal expired in 2012, primed to sign another huge max deal for the long term at more money because of his age, but he won’t do it. Why? Because Bosh wants to win, and he is sick of losing in Toronto.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Chris has embraced Toronto the way Deron has taken to SLC. He set out to build a contender there because they are the team that took a chance on him. But like DWill, Bosh wants to win. He is a competitor, and winning is his ultimate goal. He has been openly frustrated with the way things have panned out in Toronto, and he might just be holding out for 2010 to explore his options.
So how can the Jazz be major players in luring him to Utah? It most definitely will not be easy, but it could be very, very worth it. Bosh would fit perfectly in Utah’s PF oriented offense. He would also make an impact immediately. If the Jazz were to make a play for him, they would probably need to give up quite a bit in order to sweeten the deal. If the Raptors would work with the Jazz this summer, Utah could offer them Boozer, CJ, or a number of other players to make it all work. The Jazz would need to find out if Chris would be willing to sign a three year max money extension to guard against him walking next year. If Toronto chooses to keep him, and has another disappointing season next year (which at this point seems likely), the Jazz could wait until next summer, and offer AK as an expiring contract and others in as sign and trade deal.
Like I said, it’s complicated. As a fan though, I’d like to see Jazz management be active on this front. Working out the free agent issues is at the forefront of the priority list right now, but all in all, all of us want the Jazz to contend for a championship. We are passed the rebuilding stages now, and its time to step up. If Boozer walks and the rest of the team stays pretty much the same, don’t expect much of an improvement next year. There are some gaping holes that need to be addressed this summer (defense, backup PG, no-shows on the road, lack of hustle/heart…), and we need to address them now. Going after a player like Bosh is a step in the right direction. Unlike Booz, Chris wants to win above anything else. Don’t get me wrong, I like Carlos, but is he really the player that will take us to the next level? He seems to play with about a 75% commitment level, and we need a guy that gives a 110% all of the time to help DWill out on the block. I personally think Chris Bosh is that sort of guy.
Our team has a lot of the right pieces in place, but we need some tweaking, and I hope KOC is working overtime right now to make some adjustments. 50 wins and a second round playoff exit just won’t do it for me at this point, and I think a lot of our fans feel the same way.

I’ve been on the Bosh bandwagon since he was drafted by Toronto. The guy is as classy as they come and he plays hard whenever he’s on the court. I would cry happy tears if he ever donned a Jazz jersey. D-Will to C-Bosh! Sounds pretty amazing, doesn’t it?

xbryonx, Toronto fans are not happy with Bosh because they thought he wasn’t trying at all during most of the regular season last year, that “he plays hard whenever he’s on the court” is just wrong. Bosh is also not a great defensive player, though he’s better than Boozer. Also, he loves the party scene, so he would leave Utah after a year, IMO, no questions asked. If Bosh was free, I’d take him, but we would have to give up really significant pieces to get him.

So, when can we actually expect ANY movement from the Jazz? I know it’s only been a few weeks, but I am already growing very impatient. Trade Booz and CJ for Bosh, then give up AK for Maggette … talk about a powerhouse!

I just hope the Jazz can be actual contenders next season.

It would be so awesome if the jazz were able to get Chris Bosh. However i don’t really see it happening….. But…. We need to make a big move to get us fired up!!!! We need to do something like the nuggets did with Billups, im not saying trade williams, im simply saying our team isn’t working well enough to get us a championship, so we need to make a trade to get a defensive leader (like Billups) that will fire up our guys.

I know I am dreaming…but I want Dwight Howard to play for the Jazz. Now all I need is a genie in a lantern…..

Ames… I think lot is going on right now but they are not about to let the public know until it is all put together because that might put a kabosh in something they are trying to do. Is Kabosh a word? anyway, the last thing they would want to do is mess up some deal by going public with another. I think it will be awhile before we hear much for certain.

Booz can’t be traded until June 30th at 10 pm, IF he does NOT opt out. If he does opt out, the Jazz hold his Bird Rights and could do a sign and trade, if he wants to go to Toronto. Detroit? Miami? Even OK? But, I doubt he wants to go to Toronto. Just like Bosh wants to get out of a losing situation, I doubt that Booz wants to get into that situation.
If he doesn’t opt out, the Jazz can make the trade and be no worse off, contract wise, than if the keep Booz, even if neither signs an extension. Plus, as you point out Bosh is a much better fit, if even for a year than Booz.
Who knows, he’s played with D-Wil in the Olympics and the Jazz are a winning program, he might just love it here and sign on for the long term.

Maybe so, Andy, but Toronto already has a history with running their superstars out for what they feel was a subpar performance. Example being VC, although, I think he might’ve came out afterwords and said he was… I don’t remember off the top of my head…

dude ive been saying this since last year when i saw his contract was gonna be up soon…i would love to see this man in a jazz uniform…i think that AKs contract right now is killing the jazz… the truth is the jazz wont have a chance at a championship until AKs gone…i love him but hes not worth a tenth of what we are paying him

I agree ak is a great player but bosh is a way better player and he might be the missing peice to get us over the top and win big
justalars on May 20, 2009 said:
First off if Bosh signs an extension for 5 years he doesn’t lose the next two years of his contract, he is just under contract for 7 years. D-wills extension doesn’t go into effect till next season even though he signed it last year.
Brian McCann on May 20, 2009 said:
Justalars- That isn’t the type of extension Toronto is offering him. They want to pay him more money now as an incentive to stay, not lock him in for the better part of a decade. There is no way Bosh would go for that. It would essentially assume that he would be locked in for the better part of what’s left of his career.

Forget about Chris Bosh, I’ll do one better-AMARE STOUDEMIRE! Give phoenix whatever they want especially AK and whoever. They can package Boozer in a sign and trade, Okur the same thing. Just keep Williams and Millsap, Brewer, and Korver. Those four with Stoudemire or start playing Koufos more. Phoenix is looking to shop whoever they want anyway, even Nash “if the price is right.” The Jazz would get everything that Boozer is plus a better interior defender and I think he’s more athletic than Bosh. He even had better stats than Bosh when Amare was playing. Just imagine how revved up Jazz fans would be when the Jazz are playing the Lakers in next year in the first round of the playoffs game 7 in LA, and Kobe is driving for a layup and Amare comes over to help Brewer with his 6′11″ frame swats the ball right to DWill who rushes ahead throws a pretty pass to Korver for a 3 to Put the Jazz up for good in the final minutes. And finally advanced on the favored Lakers. Can’t you just feel the energy now. 1997-1998 all over again. The Jazz are back! YEE HAW. Now go get him!

if we could get Chris Bosh, Chris Anderson, or some really good guys who want to win, we could be looking at a good starting lineup
Deron Williams
Kyle Korver – he needs to start
Ronnie Brewer
Chris Bosh
Mehmet Okur
then you got Kirilenko and possibly Chris Anderson and some other contributors and we got a team, hey, why not we look at Hedo Turkoglu, he’s a free agent and he opted out of contract, he won’t be playing for the Magic next year, that would be cool

I’ve been wanting Bosh on the team for a while, and the Jazz have the means of going after him. I agree, it won’t be easy and may not happen, but it is possible.
KOC, do your thing! Make us proud, and most of all, make us a championship contender!
