who would you rather have backup DWill? a rookie, or a vet? I don’t think you can go for a rookie PG in the draft without signing a vet in the offseason.
Dallan on May 26, 2009 said:
Does it matter if we draft a point guard to back up d-will? Sloan wont play him anyway! So honestly it would be better if we are going to go that way to keep ronnie price to a one year deal and then draft a point guard. That way we can see if ronnie price can do it and we have a back up for the year after that. Thats my opinion. We dont need another small forward. we have to many players who can play that position allready. Even though budinger would be great.

well knowing jerry he isn’t goin to play much any way but with ty lawson he has been in school long enough, so he is more mature then most. piont guards in the draft and why get a vet to play ten minutes a game I would much rather have a rookie to come off the bench. It gives him experience so he will mature faster, and he is fresher and, gives you spark coming off the bench. We all saw what a vet does look at breavin knight compared to ronny price. Ronny is younger and plays more up tempo. Breavin just wants to slow it down and play like he is starting i don’t wnat my piont gaurd coming off the bench playing like that all he is going to do is turn the ball over and hurt my team if he comes in pushes the ball up and down the court and gets some pionts its a heck of alot better. We had a vet for a year now we saw how it works it doesn’t so get a rookie piont gaurd and give him a shot.

iI think that we already have a back-up to D-Will in RP . I think that our picks should be save for more defense , or a quality post player , unless we are going to play our 2 rookies in the post more next season so that they can develop their game .
I am so interested in seeing what KOC and crew will do this year .

Chase would be a solid pick-up for the Jazz, even with the log-jam at that position. I really don’t think he would fall that far, so the Jazz would probably have to trade for him. If the Jazz want to trade for picks, I would rather have them go after Thabeet. Just my opinion.
Either way, Chase is a good player and I would not be disappointed if the Jazz picked him up.
Dallan on May 27, 2009 said:
I totally agree with you tman the problem is sloan he wont do it. Even D-Will didnt play until the end of his season. But then again what happens if we dont give sloan a choice. That would be something to think about but then again what happens if we do get him and then we have someone who wont be able to play at this level then we will have a problem there. But if Kevin O Connor was smart he would see obviouslt BK was not getting it done and we dont need to resign him and hopefully Ronnie P wont be to upset about last year. Sign him and get a rookie in there and let them compete for the job.

I feel all of you are way off on your thoughts for the Jazz’s needs in the draft. I agree Ronnie Price is our man at this time as a back up for Williams. However I feel our main concern for the draft is to acquire a dominating big man at the center position. Yes, as some one here said, a rookie is probably not the best answer. I personally think we need to trade some players and picks to get a veteran of some sort. Heaven knows that there are tons on non-restricted and restricted players on the market this off season. We need someone that can block shots and play good defense under the basket. We desperately need someone that can stop “just any-one” from driving into the paint and easily scoring. We have had no-one that can or will try to stop that from happening. Even Kirilenko isn’t the threat he use to be. Offense is not as a important right now, we have that in other players. We need some-one that can stop the EASY scoring in the paint and open up the other players to be able to play a little defense on the guy the are suppose to defend and keep them from dropping 3’s all day long. If we can answer this problem we have the makings to go all the way in the team we have right now, provided we dont lose all of them in the off season.

thats cool some one actually agreeed with me on here i was thinking i just either crazy or just one great coach. But anywho i agree resign ronny he has proven to everyone that he is the spark coming off the bench. I honestly didnt know what took jerry so long to see it but hey he finally got it, and let him play a year cause we all know jerry isn’t going to let a rookie play from the get go. The only player that got any real playing time as a rookie for the jazz is Dwill and, look where they picked him up 3rd over all. Every one else that was ever drafted by the jazz yeah they got a few minute here and there but never played on a consistant bases. It’s smart in some way as far as yeah he’s a rookie not use to the game by any means and, just not quite ready for it. But come on if the kid can play let him play! like Kosta i really think the kid can ball and with any other team in the league he would have got some time but not with us. So let ronny run the back up show this year and next year next a kid like ty lawson feilds eric manor of whatever his name is and see what he can do.
tman11 on May 27, 2009 said:
i never said offense was a problem i mean come on how could it be when you 4th in the league in scoring pionts? There is really only two problems the jazz have they are inconsistent which will go away the older there players get and, defense. the only thing is we go big every year in the draft so dont draft big and anther thing there isn’t to many FA right now that has size i want to see what kosta and fez can bring to the court. I mean fez is your 7 foot 300 pound big man he has a few years under his belt give the kid some time and see what he makes of him self. Also kosta he is a finess shot blocker he is 7 feet tall and can run a bit better and i dout both memo and boozer are leaving so u already got dept at that position any way not to also bring up the two guy the jazz drafted last year in the second round. one is 6 9 and the other is 7 1 you go two big men we havent even seen play yet we got tons a dept at the big man and forward and shooting gaurd spot but no one to back up Dwill cause in sloans eyes Ronny for some reason hasn’t proven him self because if he has they wouldn’t have gone out and gotten Knight this year and have him back up Dwill make Sloan happy get ur self a guard.

why havent we given almond rice any part of playn time this year in the playoffs?he was on the roster, but,i think he is a great and streaky shooter…alah,korver,house,redick..he could be a spot up 3point shooter or a vujacic type of player.all he needs to do is work on his defense and he’ll be a better player.
J R Stewart on May 28, 2009 said:
Ronnie Price is a free agent. He can sign with any team.
The Jazz have only one point guard under contract, DWil.
They will want 2 backups.
If they could draft a good PG, in this PG heavy draft, and sign Ronnie, that would probably be better than adding more clutter to the already jammed 2-3 roster positions.
Besides PG they need a shot blocking center, which will be unlikely at #20.

Thats what i was sayin JR. There are not alot of big man even in the draft this year minus BJ Mullens and Thabeet but we cant get Thabeet and why take mullens when we allready have a Ohio State center on our roster allready and he is a heck of a better player then Mullens is by far in my opinion! If we lose Boozer though i think we still need to go for a point guard. For the simple fact that we have plenty of people who can play the PF position. So what would be the point of going for a PF again. Maybe in the second round we could do that but i feel first and foremost we need a backup for D-Will.
Dan on May 28, 2009 said:
The Jazz are not going to draft a point guard. I would bet all that I have that if Tyler Hansbrough is available at #20, he will be a member of the Utah Jazz and Carlos Boozer will be no more.

I like almond it’s just the jazz have brewer and korver already and sloan is going to trust a guy thats been in the league longer liek korvor over almond any day even though i think that’s wrong. korver cn’t creat liek almond does almonds more atheltic and can get to the hole korver is jsut a pure shooter but almond has all around game i mena in the Dleague the last two year his nick name was little kobe. So if he is like a kobe byant typethat means he is not jsut a pure shooter he can score at will i say get korver out of there and let see what morris brigns to the table.

tyler handbro will be there at number 20 hell with what i heard he would almost be thier at number 40 they wont make a run for tyler it goin to be some one like bliar BJ Mulluns johnson for wake forest or some one like that. All i said is i wish they would go for a piont cause it’s a smarter move. We all know boozers gone he made that clear when he told ESPN at the start of the season he was leaving. if you ask me we should have traded him while we had the chance and, if he thinks he is goin to get more money else where for get that to teams will just laugh at him and ask how many games did you play in last season? he will be lucky to get half of what he is making in utah

Know what guys…i think this guy got a game but not in the NBA. My prediction is hes gonna be like Darko Milicic’s situation when he got in the league. I don’t know…feel free to hit me back corcerning that stuff.
We need guys like;
Emeka Okafor
Bruce Bowen
Shane Battier
yeah…more on defenders
and a back up pointguard as well…
Go Utah!!
tman11 on June 06, 2009 said:
Wow Darko that’s a big compliment right there he is competing for a starting job right now in mephis. if he was going to turn out like Darko pick him up but to me he is to short and not strong enough, to be productive for the jazz. they would be forced to put him at small forward where he would be fighting for time with AK CJ and Matt. So i just dont see how he would get any time to prove him self in a jazz jersey.

They need to let Sloan go. If you can’t prove yourself in 20 or so years, it’s time to move on. It’s like Reagan in the White House; the man was senile while holding office. And how about a name change? The Jazz? Utah? I live in Kansas City, we were a huge part of the birth of Jazz. The state of Utah strikes me as more of a Bluegrass or Gospel music state. How about the Utah Joseph Smith’s? Or the Utah Conservatives. Or the Utah No Caffeine. Or anything other than the Jazz. It made sense in New Orleans. I’ll bet Sloan doesn’t listen to Jazz, just like he doesn’t listen to the people telling him to step down. Great, he’s gotten the Jazz to the playoffs a lot with an above average team. I’m pretty sure I could get the Jazz to the playoffs, and I’ve never coached basketball. He had one of the best combos for a long period of time in Malone & Stockton, and never won the big one. Stop giving him contracts, he’s not going to win the championship.
reid on June 24, 2009 said:
And another thing, Harpring is terrible. The rest of the league knows this, but Utah fans love the guy. I used to be a huge Jazz fan. The reason I stopped is because Sloan single-handedly ruined Andrei Kirilenko’s career, and gives Harpring significant minutes. There is no call for Harpring to be playing in the NBA. The guy is way below average. Adam Keefe was better than Harpring. Yeah, Adam Keefe!

Also, Morris Almond should be starting. There, I said it.

I guess L.A. needs a new name then too. It made sense when it was the Minnesota Lakers, but not so much now.

Wait wait wait now i agree Jerry ruined what Ak could have been but, as far as Matt being a bad player i totally disagree he was getting 18 pionts a game back in the day and, him and AK were draging are sorry excuse for a franchise back in the early 2000s. Morris should be back up Brewer he isn’t a small forward so he isn’t even goin for CJs spot. Ak should have been starting and Matt getting 15 off the bench. cause he is so physical and messes with peoples heads. I agree though jerry did ruinin AK career moved him to the bench. He started playing him less and less it was just stupid. Jackass any how I question his coaching alot of times. He has a great basketball mind but as far as palyin players and, who he palys i don’t know

Matt is in an expiring year contract. Good trade bait for a luxury tax relief trade, buy out and “wink…wink”, resign at the minimum in 30 days.
Almond Joy starting??? For what team?

i really enjoyede watching this kid play. My only worry i have with him is where would he fit with the jazz. You got a very deep depth chart and small forward and shooting gaurd and he isnt big enought to play center, or power forward. To me if i were the jazz i would first focus on a piont gaurd to back up Dwill, he made a mistake last year in giving brevin knight the second string spot Ronny Price was way better and gave them more of a spark coming off the bench. To me he should have been in the sport the last 2 years the kids a stud. but go out and draft a kid like ty lawson or the fields kid from pit great pick right there at the end of the first round, to me. I mean they have needed some one to back up Dwill for two years now go and get some one then.
